1.4 cruze is peppy and fun. The 6 speed manual makes it more fun to drive.

Now if you think GM still makes shitty cars, drive an ATS or a Regal GS. Amazing cars the both of them and superior imo to the german competition.

Haven't driven a Cruze yet but I've generally heard good things about them. Some rental cars that have surprised me lately for actually being good were the Fiesta and the new Yaris. Both were surprisingly refined, comfortable and well equipped for sub-compacts. However the Chrysler 200 is a giant pile of steaming camel poo.

Totally forgot about the Regal, quite fun for what it is! In a similar vein sad to see you go Suzuki Kizashi.

Girlfriend has one. She loves it. I think its one of the better looking cars GM has made in a while.

Kizashi is such a neat, quirky car. I think Subaru could use that designer.

My last job was @ a body shop where we repaired Avis rent a cars.
I have fixed and drove at least about 40-50 cruze's and I agree, they are awesome cars for the money.
The only other car I always enjoyed driving was the ford focus 4 door hatch. Very quick for its tiny engine and handled very nicely.

Cool, I work for Avis budget group. I like the cruze's a little. It's just slow and has no kinda power feel to it at all. I'd never buy one though. I do like the interior though

The Regal GS is a re-badged Opel...

                    Still a GM product.

The power and drivetrain in the Cruze is european also. Most of their current product line shares parts from european counterparts.

I had a Cruze rental car a few months back and I could not wait to get out of it. Mediocre gas mileage and no matter how may times I adjusted the seat I felt like I had to duck my head down to see out the windshield.

I had a Ford Focus a few months before that and I loved that car. Great MPG, nice interior and exterior, felt like it handled and accelerated better.

That's true, base model vs base model the Focus is a better car mostly due to the very average 1.8l Cruze engine and the very downmarket base Cruze interior.

I actually own a 2012 Focus Titanium. I test drove all the competition (Mazda 3i, Golf TDi, Cruce Eco, etc) and it was by far and away the winner in terms of refinement, NVH levels, interior quality, etc. It really felt like a grown-up midsized car when it came to comfort and features. But it still handles like a fun hatchback (though the Mazda was a bit more fun to drive). Sadly it has been anything but reliable :( I'm actually hoping to sell it and get in to an '03 540i/6 Msport

Bummer about the reliability issues you've had. What problems have you had? I'm seriously considering a Titanium or ST so I'd really like to hear about your experience.
