Mine has 202,000 and purrs like a kitten. I just may decide to keep it for another 100,000. I test drove the unlimited today and was not wowed at all. My expectations were not too high but I didn't feel that new car excitement during the test drive. The engine also seemed to work really hard moving the jeep. My Cherokee honestly felt stronger but I know that can't be possible. I test drove the base model with cloth interior and power windows. The jeep just seemed drab, boring and under powered. I think the Jeep Unlimited is off my list. I'm open to any other comparable vehicles that you guys can recommend.

I had a 2007 unlimited when they first came out. It was a great jeep and now that they improved the drivetrain its going to be even better. Wait for the light diesel to come out though if your worried about mpg.

i wonder if that pentastar has a front or rear oil sump and if theres a way to get a standard gearbox to fit. :) 305hp all aluminum. no exhaust manifolds to worry about... just a couple down pipes. sounds like a fun idea for a swap into the e30 haha

            Anything ever come of this?

Was talking to the Mrs. about getting her into an SUV, and it's been a tough discussion because she really REALLY wants a manual. She has never owned an auto since her first car.

I was pretty set on getting her into a new 4runner after our rental experience this summer, and she likes it too, but the fact that they killed the manual version saddens her.

So today, I was all like "What about a Jeep unlimited?" She got pretty excited at the thought. I used to hate the fact that they killed the straight six as much as the next guy... But let's face it, where else can I find a 4 door, kid friendly, off-road (read: Camping), topless, doorless, manual SUV? Also, the kids would love it too.

We're going to go test drive one to see how she likes it. If they turn out as I'm hoping I'll probably buy her one as a Birthday present next spring.

When I used to landscape/mow/remove snow, we drove a fleet of these jeeps. Id say the oldest one was an 07, and a couple were 2013's, and the owner had 2014's (newest model year at the time) for him and his wife. They aren't made for towing that's for sure. Had a fleet of 9, and had replaced the transmissions in like 6 of them before 40k miles. They all towed trailers full of mulch, or mowers and tools though, and it was just too much stress for them.
We'd unhook the trailers at the dump sometimes though and run it through the mud and hills and it was an absolute blast though. Snow removal was quite a bit of fun in them too actually. Jeeps are cool though, I've taken a couple in on trade and they seem to hold their value pretty okay too.

A nice comparison to choosing a Jeep over a Toyota because of the transmission would be the Meatloaf song Paradise by the Dashboard Lights

Hell my gf's Jetta's 6 speed auto tranny is a nice piece of work. A far cry from my old Toyota's 4 speed auto circa the late 80's

My friend's ex had one of those 4 door jeeps. The removable top is okay but everything inside is plastic. The door window switches are in weird places. Somehow some of the Wrangler's simplistic go-anywhere attitude is lost with the two extra doors.

it's a Kenny Powers quote on wheels

I love that reference, and sadly we sung that song in front of a bunch of people on a cruise ship once.....

I know what you mean, but I gotta agree, auto's are just boring.

3 car home, not one auto.

Wow, I forgot I made this thread. I didn't buy the new jeep, thank God because I lost my job a year later and end up going into the nursing field . I did by a jeep but it's the tj with the bullet proof 4.0

I came in here to say- buy a TJ instead.

JK Wranglers feel incredibly cheap and rattly. The interior materials are just awful and the van engine feels like a van engine. The only somewhat current Jeep I would buy would be an ~'06 SRT-8 Grand Cherokee, and I would have to have tons of money to waste with someone holding a gun to my head telling me I had to buy a modern Jeep.
