    quick ?

    my friend just got a 90 325i but the guy he got it from said it had a recent engine replacement and he wants to know how to tell if its a i motor or an e motor and im not yet familiar enough with these motors to give him an anwser so i said id research and were better than here thanks in advance

    Some quick things are the valve cover on an eta motor has a roundel while the i motor has "BMW" on it, the intake manifolds are different (see below), and the i motors will have a different plug for resetting service intervals.

    Notice the tiny plug next to the dipstick on the eta and the much larger plug next to the dipstick on the i motor. There are other ways if needed, but these are quick.

      As the pic I created below you can see the major differences. The i motor has a different valve cover, intake manifold and doesnt have the extra hoses and what not on the end of the intake manifold

          "Port thing on intake" is the cold start injector on the ETA.
