my friend just got a 90 325i but the guy he got it from said it had a recent engine replacement and he wants to know how to tell if its a i motor or an e motor and im not yet familiar enough with these motors to give him an anwser so i said id research and were better than here thanks in advance

Some quick things are the valve cover on an eta motor has a roundel while the i motor has "BMW" on it, the intake manifolds are different (see below), and the i motors will have a different plug for resetting service intervals.

Notice the tiny plug next to the dipstick on the eta and the much larger plug next to the dipstick on the i motor. There are other ways if needed, but these are quick.Interested in vintage cars?
