I wouldn't even have posted this thread without looking at it and deciding first. Definitely something I would buy.
I want a nice set of smoked MHW's (I know, get it line)

I never intended to buy it. Just was wondering if he was a member here.

$1800 seems like a deal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't using an M30 and an E24 transmission kind of going backwards?

Seems like the same amount of work for an M5X swap.

Saw that when I opened the ad. The owner said it is funny(he did not do the swap).

It might have the 265 transmission, would be insane if it has the 3pc 265 euro(I will check)Edit:has the 260/6. The B35 came in the e24 with the optional 5spd. They are hard to find in any of the e28/34(260/6) and e24s.

It is not backwards, the engine and transmission comes together.

Going backwards in what way? This is a common misconception that the M30 is "old technology" compared to the M20 and it's "going backwards". While the basic design of the m30 block dates back to the late 60's and the m20 dates back to the late 70's that doesn't really matter because the latest versions of them don't share much with the first ones. The latest version of the M20 is the B25 that started in 1986 while the latest version of the M30 is the B35 which started in 1988. So the M30B35 actually is "newer" and definitely not "going backwards".

Not a bad deal at all. Just would need some work to get it back to respectable bmw status. Air filter, colors...etc.

I'm surprised I haven't seen it on the roads locally. Our maybe I have, but it may have been a while ago

He mentioned he is really swinging to keep it now since I made contact with him. Showed him the forum in a few text, he joined up to our ranks today. Told him to pop in and say hello.

He bought it from MD or something, never put it on the road. Swap was already done before he bought it.

Hi Guys, my car.....after being contacted by a couple of you guys locally I'm probably going to keep the car and make it a little more respectable.

                          Point taken.

However, for all teh work involved, is it not just as easy to swap in an M5X?

It may be just as easy or easier but an m30 has more power and way more torque than an m50 or m52 (s50 or s52 are faster, but way more $).

That car was for sale in maryland Craigslist forever, dude originally wanted like 5k or trade for bikes or other cars. It was literally listed for like 6 months price slowly dropping each time untill it was eventually 2500 Obo that's when a friend of mine seriously considered buying it and then the owner flaked

Would have been a good buy. Should have sprung on it. Late models for sub 2k and m30 swapped at that.

If it was a cleaner platform you could have just swapped everything over from your sedan.

Heat wrapped intake is a plus right?
