The M3 should be designed around the racing class it will be campaigned in. Designed to win.

Just like the original. Anything less will be a poseur.

I am at the training facility in NJ right now and i was told that bmw is doing that for advertisement or some dumb crap like that as to make the bmw line look a lot larger by adding the 2, and 4 series. Personally i think its stupid. although the E70 X5 M is really nice as well as the F12 M6, but yet again price is way up there too.

I thought it was accepted that the new M3/4 is gonna be an FI I6...

Meh... I honestly kind of like the V8 in the E9x M3 given what the car has become, it's fitting. I wouldn't mind owning one outfitted with a supercharger...

Car and Driver already released saying something it would be a twin-turbo I6 making 450hp and weigh around 3300lbs (around 3700 now) through the use of CF and other composites.

I wanted it to be another V8 but since emissions are strangling everyone, the i6 makes more sense.

i love my v8 although for a daily driver it's not practical. But on the track that's when you appreciate the high revving NA motor and sound imo. I'll miss the V8 but I'm sure that the BMW guys know what they are doing and the next generation will probably be just as good if not better.

BMW M is known for amazing high revving, high output per liter, naturally aspirated inline 6s. I don't think the m3 should have ever left the i6. Now I can understand if they need to go turbo because of efficiency and it's the way of the future and all that now but at least keep the i6 configuration, that's something that more importantly sets bmw apart from other manufacturers, not to mention the advantages of the i6 configuration over others.

At first, and second, I nearly hurled at the thought of a v6 turbo, but as long as it winds out hard, what really matters is lightness.
How about a screaming 4 turbo in the 1?

With the relentless fatness growth they will need a .5 series soon.

These new 3's are like the old 7s.
Bigger and heavyer and they'll keep getting bigger and heavier.
N/A I6 would feel like crap. All competition would smoke m3s all day.

                                Twin turbo v8 always.
