DARN! i wish i had a air horn. they do have e's here and they are dime a dozen. on and as for the question about "S" badges cars, i have never seen an "S" as in "IS" (i believe all the sport models were the M-Tech I, and the M-Tech II)
For the UK there was a 325i Sport but that was a fully loaded 325i with an M-Tech II kit. however the "S" badge does come on cars here in DE. 325es! ive seen a few and a guy who works with us has one but beats the crap out of it. so hope thats somewhat of a good posting.

mikeedler, if you wanna add something i might of left out or forgotten.

            thanks for the info guys
i bought the car for 2900 dollars with 107000 miles on it.
It could have been cheaper but it has a new paintjob, new convertible top, new rims, and a few other small things such as speakers and new stereo wiring. I put my own headunit in and next i want to install smilies and a conforti chip. Are HID's a popular upgrade? Ive read about some stories and it seems like a lot of custom work to make them function properly.

I think you got the car for a VERY fair price in the U.S.

but this one is pretty rare
The first baur I see with an eta engine.
                Most E30 Baurs are M10 (i.e. 316 or 318i) and sometimes an 320i
btw,it could be an 320i car, the engine died and later on swapped to an 2.7e engine (due the same bhp's)

eta's and super-eta's are just popular in Germany there,
you'll hardly find one in the BeNeLux counties.

                  Hi.
                  I also have a baur.
                  About That engine shot.
The engine bay looks like mine.
Mine actually has a 323 i engine, but, it was a 320i, was the location of each element of the engine is the same, so i presume you have a 320i.

Here you can see my engine bay

and as you can see it looks the same.

                      The motors are quite different.

Note the location of the distributor on his motor, its on the front of the cam gear, whereas yours is on the side of the block driven off the oil pump gear, you can also tell this by looking at the location of your coil.

Other differences are obviously the intake manifold is a tad different, plus head, lower end block, etc etc etc

Both engines have the newer style airbox if I compare it to my 323i airbox
the one I have is from sheet metal and more rounded on top side

Also the valve cover, intake manifold, and various other pieces throughout the engine bay. It's a 2.7, folks.

you guys are so helpful, thank you so much!
So you guys think that the original engine died and was swapped to a 2.7
This seems the case because one of you said youve never seen a 2.7 in a BAUR before.
Just guessing, but when it died the shop or dealer probly couldnt find a euro motor for it so they just put in a 2.7
One more question, when these things were federalized or legalized for the United States, was US bumper a requirement to be legal here? I think the rear bumper is extremely ugly and really want Euros on my car.

BTW: IF it was an original 320i or 323i Baur, then was the batt. mounted in the engine bay.
Only the 325i (I'm talkingabout ECE specs) and maybe the eta's came with trunk mounted batt.s
I think 325e FTW, if somebody can confirm that the batt. is also trunk mounted on eta's
