What to do with scrap metal/old parts?

How do I get rid of my old rusted exhaust & front subframe (in a socially responsible way)? These large parts are building up in my garage, but the regular trash guy won't take them away. I might just bury them in the yard & let them rust away.

Depending on your area, just leave them by the trash and wait for the scrappers to pick them up. If I put something large and metal by my dumpster it's gone in less than a day. People prowl through ally's looking for scrap metal.

Just search "scrap" on your local craigslist, should be ads up for free scrap metal removal, maybe even "cash for your scrap metal". Shouldn't be hard to find someone to come take it.

I have a trailer in the back yard and whenever I have any scrap metal ie: old rotors, rims, scrap parts, I just throw it on the trailer and when it gets full I hook it up and go to the scrap yard and sell it to them, you'd be surprised how much you can get.

Thanks for ideas & sorry for the newb question. I didn't think metal recyclers would do pick-ups for small loads (I've got a holey catback OE muffler, a pair of brake rotors and a holey front subframe and sway bar). If my neighbors weren't so snooty, I'd just throw the stuff behind their hedges and watch it shrink over the next few years. Proper disposal will keep the peace around here...

Or, post up an ad on CL in the "Free" section and I guarantee you'll have someone pick it up the same day.

For what you have, it sounds like it's probably not worth making a special trip to the scrap place, but you might also check that if you have one nearby you would be surprised what you might get for a decent sized load of scrap (especially true if you have any kind of weight in aluminum, copper, etc- wheels, radiators, etc) steel- not so much.

I hauled off over 700lbs of scrap a few weekends ago.

                              Got $42.
