^those cars are solid. They look decent, feel euro and have a shit ton of options for the low price.

My gf just bought a 2012 mazda 3 this past fall and it's a pretty nice car. HUGE trunk and gets crazy mpg with the skyactiv motor. We got it for like 17,100 OTD with leather installed and TTR.

I'm going to add a vote for the e39. My wife and I spent a few months shopping for a new car with more space; V70 wagons, X3, X5, XC90, Cayenne, Passat, Jetta Wagon, etc. At the end of the day, the e39 was hands down the most comfortable and overall most solid car. We grabbed a touring for the space and I love it. I have room for all my junk, am glad to put clients in it to head for lunch and am surprised at the low costs of parts. I got a 540, but I think the 528 would be a better fit for your mom considering reliability.

Hope that helps a little bit.

I'll weigh in with a suggestion of the Kia Optima. Much like the Hyundai Sonata it has tons of room, gets good gas mileage, and won't break the bank. I prefer the styling on the optima more. You can get into an lx or ex for low 20's new and high teens for one or two years old. SX has a tighter suspension (though not BMW tight) and carries a higher price tag, but if she likes sporty looks and practicality maybe.

We've had our 2011 SX now for almost 2 years and 38,000 miles. No money spent on it except for monthly payments, oil changes, and aftermarket equipment (wheels, etc.).

If she wants euro I'd go with a slightly used golf or jetta. They build quality has been much better the last few years and it the interiors look nice without having all that space-age looking BS that Ford can't seem to help itself from doing.

Got one for the MIL, she loves me for my choice! We got her the GLS model and it has more features than she knows what to do with. She esp enjoys the highway performance and the highway stability over the 05 Focus it replaced.

                      What about a Ford Fiesta?
I talked to her today and she seams like she is going for a VW. She tends to get overwhelmed buy things she doesnt understand, and then just goes for what she wanted in the first place. Sadly I am up in WA and she is in CA so I can really hold her hand and help her out at all. Iv just been shooting her emails and FB messages giving her what ever advice I can.

what about a older like 06 body jetta diesel 600+ miles full tank and like $50 to fill up. i think this would do good.

another one would be the dodge dart, those are freaking badass. I actually wouldnt mind one personally.

Ford has come a long way, You get a low mileage car, someone else has taken the inital depreciation hit, its stylish and so far I have not heard of too many big issues with them, the only gripe I have with them an almost all new cars is you cant see shit out the back window.

Stay away from the Ford Fiesta. We have them at work and they are the most uncomfortable seats I have ever sat in. Hell I've sat in ebay knock off seats that are more comfortable.
