    coded left door lock cylinder

Hello all, I'm looking to get a coded lock cylinder for the driver door for my E30. I rather have it coded and ready to be popped in compared to rebuilding the original on my car. Can anyone provide a seller that makes them for less than $72. I want ones that are coded for my exisiting key.

I found the following on ebay, but was not sure if it already comes with a key they made for it.

Plus I rather give the business to a sponsoring company of this site or a member instead of ebay.

    Thanks
    Shah

Buy a blank set of keys, and just pull all of the tumblers out of the lock.

      Problem solved.
Haven't you ever seen Russian Nesting Dolls? They work like that.

Hi Shah - I just went through this and ended up buying the rebuild kit on ebay for about $35 shipped. I too didn't want to do the rebuild but it was a LOT simpler than the directions made it out to be - start to finish was an hour, going really slow and carefully. I'd say rebuild it. The two DIYs that I printed out and followed were:

        http://e30world.com/body/BMW-E30-lock-cylinder-repair
        http://www.billswebspace.com/BMWE30D...derRebuild.htm

If you really don't want to do the work contact Steve Sandlin @ vwcarlocks@hotmail.com Working off of just a good photo (or you could send him a spare key) he can get your key code & cut a new key. Then he can order you a new lock and key it to your newly cut key. Cost more but you don't have to do the rebuild.

        Best of luck!

Nice! Just be slow and deliberate in your dismantling of the old lock. I took a LOT of pics with my phone to refer to, that helped.

Why not just go to the dealer? My ignition cylinder was like $60 and was brand new

Its not a bad job. If you have a sedan like me its much harder to get the cylinder out that to do the rebuilding.

That ebay kit with the keys will not match your existing locks so the rebuild kit was the right decision. Use this thread for reference and I promise it wont take you more than a week :-)

So I finished rebuilding the key. Now I have 2 questions:

                      1. When you put the key in the cylinder and turn it and see the arm move, it is correct that in one position you cannot take out the key and the other position you can? I just want to verify.

                      2. How do you reinstall the cylinder into the door? I'm having a very difficult time completing the task. I was only able to get the cylinder into the door once, where I was able to put the locking clip in too, but it was loose and didnt seem to do anything. So I'm guessing that it is suppose to sit inside the U shaped area, but how?

                          1. If you turn the key 45* to the right to lock, then you can straighten out the key and remove it. This is a standard locking. If you turn it 90* to the right, you can remove the key in that position, this is the double lock. The door lock mechanism is locked in the lock position, and the only way to unlock is to use the key again - you won't be able to unlock by pulling up on the door knob.

                          2. You might have a plate for the lock heater that needs to go under the locking clip, without it the lock cylinder will be loose in the door. Either way, the clip is a pretty tight fit and takes some work to press back in.

Do you guys know if a kit like this is available for the right door??
