    e30's with trailers?

    Hello R3V,

Looking to gather input on e30 and trailers. I have seen people who chop an e30 in half and make a trailer. I am not looking to do that. I am looking to build a small light weight trailer for a single stand up jet ski to go on.

If anyone has any input on trailer hitch set ups, such as past projects or build threads you know of please post below.

If any one has any questions/comments/concerns please comment below.

Thanks for any guidance I receive.

From what ive experienced you just get a tow hitch mounted like you would on any vehicle and your good to go. E30 should be able to easily tow 1 jet ski. As long as the tow hitch is properly installed (you can get one installed at a uhaul facility) then there isnt anything to worry about, or concerns etc.

I am glad to hear that. This is sort of the design I want to go with, but more cleaned up. I would be getting matching style 5s that I have on my car.

I know that there's a hitch designed for the e30s. Definitely good enough to tow a jetski. I've seen small cars haul small utility trailers.

E30's for decades have pulled trailers all over Europe. Find a hitch setup online from over there and have it shipped.

^^ If thats too pricey look up the Curt hitch available all over the internet.

Its what I purchased to tow my trailer with. Not gonna haul a big trailer, but it will definitely suit your needs.

Back in the 90s I had a 325e with a tow hitch. I towed a ~300lb 13' runabout race boat on a single axle trailer 2000 miles to Michigan and back with no problem. I also successfully launched and recovered that vessel half a dozen times that summer with no issue though my E30 with trailer did look a little silly parked in the trailer lots with all the DuraMax duallies and whatnot.

In another example, my father towed a 19' MFG center-console boat with his M50-powered '84 318i the same distance and also launched/recovered the boat with it. Total weight was probably 2500lbs.

So, plenty is possible just make sure whoever installs the hitch does a proper job.

Awesome to see a fellow Washingtonian stand up rider on the forums! Riding them is a bit of a passion of mine.

Anyways, an e30 can easily haul a single ski and small trailer. Back in the day my dad hauled his ski with his '85 eta. Last year, a friend of mine had a tow hitch installed to the back of his e30 by a local shop. All they had to do is weld the bracket that holds the hitch on to the rear and it held very nicely. He's in the military or else I would have him give you the details on how it's set up.

Here is a picture. That's me pulling two yamaha superjets with the wagon. My friend is pulling his kawasaki 450 with his 318is. We launch off a ramp with a bit of a slope and his 318 has a enough pull to get the trailer up it.

I saw a 80's subaru towing a 30ft sailboat down I-84 going 35mph a few years back. Its not the pulling thats important, its the stopping.

There was an OEM trailer mount but not sure if it was an option in the states back when e30 where new(in aus it was), mine has a factory fitted tow hitch its built in with the bumper mounts & runs under the boot floor.

I've never towed with it(I've got roof racks) but its a solid set up if/when I move I'll be putting a box trailer behind it.

Alright sounds like its do able no problem. Now I need to decide what stand up to go with, opinions on that are also welcome. I am looking at 800-1200 for a jet ski. I want a 750 preferably, I rode a 550 and it was a blast but looking for more power.
