I was having some work done on the e30 and decided to hit up one of my best friends to borrow his 2006 GTO to run some errands. In addition to him being my best friend, it was also my previous car before I sold it to him-so he doesn't mind me borrowing it whenever I want. I drove it to a local hardware store, shopped for about 20 minutes and came out to this...
(A quick shot with my iPhone. He has all the detailed photos.)

He isn't mad at me at all, but it's a fucked up situation. I asked if he knew anyone with a motive and he said "Shit with this car, I get flipped off about twice a day." I did take advantage and enjoy the power of the LS2, but didn't come into any encounters on my way there- I didn't get flipped off, didn't cut anyone off, etc. So either someone who didn't like my driving followed me or someone who had a previous vendetta against it/the owner took advantage of seeing it unguarded.
What pisses me off is why the guy didn't wait for me to come out and just confront me. Keying a car is beyond childish; I'm a big guy in stature- that can throw hands when needed (why I think he didn't confront me) but had we talked- it wouldn't have gotten to that point at all in the first place.
The security footage we got was a joke, he was wearing a hood, clearly a male but no facial details, and no footage of him getting in a car. Still filed a police report of course.
His insurance won't cover it (their argument is "how do we know you didn't key it?") ... Yeah he keyed his cherry garaged 2006 GTO with 22,000 miles for a new paint job...
Anyways, what are your feelings towards this? How would you handle it? Ever had your car keyed? I keep offering to pay for at least half since we don't know what the persons motive was, but he refuses to take my money. (Damage estimated at $1100)
I don't really see a cut and dry solution to this, just venting my unlucky day I suppose. Who the hell keys a car?!
