Did you show them the video and the police report? the logic that "how do we know you didnt do it" can basically be applied to ANY accident if you think about it, this cant be the final answer!
I drive 5mph over at the max with my e30 and never be a dick. I have been keyed twice for no reason so far. People are fucking dicks...that is why you got keyed.

i think its that slot of people see that you have something better than they do and they want to get back at you for that, the only car in my family thats been keyed was a couple of years ago, some asshat keyed my moms brand new 300 still had dealer plates some asshat keyed it i swear to god my mom was on a death path for a couple of days
There is a product that helps with deep scratches and keys. I don't know the name of it off the top of my head, but here is how it works:
You get your color match paint chip fill and a fine brush. Fill the scratch with the paint, with a little bit higher fill (so the scratch will now be painted but be raised.)
Then you take a rag and place this liquid on it, and rub the freshly filled paint up and down (perpendicular to the scratch). This takes off the paint that is higher than the other paint, but leaves the rest of the paint in the scratch.
The result is a pretty darn good fill that looks way better than the scratch, and far cheaper than a respray. I did this on my girls back bumper, and unless you get 5 inches from it, it blends perfectly. Make sure that you prep-sol the scratch before painting for maximum adhesion.

same thing happened to the only new car i ever bought ('98 GTI-VR6) with less than 200 miles on it.
Sorry to hear that, its nice that your buddy is refusing to take your money but I'd insist on going halfsies. I'd feel so guilty if that happened to me in a friends car.
Dude I am so sorry! I think almost every car guy/girl has experienced something like this. When I got my first car, a '76 2002, an unknown kid threw a beer bottle at it which went through my kidney grill and fucked up my paint. No fun.
