RUN from the 924's!!!! 944's aren't that bad, parts can be expensive, but the maintainence is pretty simple for the most part, if you can deal with the electronics on your e-30 you can fix your 944. 944 turbo's can be had for around the $7000 range around here, imo that's the only 944 to own, best bang for your buck. as far as 914's...if you go that route do a 914-6, you can find conversions for a reasoable price already done. real 914-6's go for around $25,000 to $30,000 in REAL nice shape, more than you prob want to spend. conversions can be had alot cheeper! i had about $12,000 into my conversion with paint AND i already had a doner 71 2.4lt 911s for parts! i basically made a 914-6GT without the fenderflairs (which i think are UGLY!) with the 190hp mechanical inj. 2.4. btw i would put PMO carbs on it if i did it again, way easier to deal with than the mech. inj! and hey they are only another $3000!
that's my, and by the way i am a porsche mechanic

I am closer to Jesus, our Lord and Saviour (and dude that brings me beer) after driving an original 2.7 RS 911.
No, seriously, the guy that owned it was a Spanish mo-fo called Jesus with a dodgy moustache... he's a f**king champion too :DPork Hunt Motorsport

It's still a front engined VW/Audi abortion.

I have a 77 911 targa, I will let is to go for 8k, has 88k on the odo, new targa top and carpet. The rest is stock except tensioners which is a must.
The car needs new tires and polishing of the paint if not a new paint job.
Was a project that I never finished, along with a bunch of others.

the guy i got my M3 from sold it to me and then restored a 71 911 targa with a 2.7ltr. I stopped by his shop last summer, and he was begging for the M3 back, he said that car was putting him in the poorhouse, and the M3 was faster and more fun. shit, just the targa seals were over 700 euros he said. beautiful car, but damn, thats alot of cash for a small rubber seal!!
porsches are cool and all, but give me a 1970 chevelle SS LS-6 if I want a money pit!!!

Yep. Thats why 75-77's are so cheap. The 2.7 is magnesium block with alumunium heads. The head studs pull due to the different expansion rates of the metals. Thats why I put the 3.2 motor in the 76'.
I only had the 914 for 6 months never checked the studs. But if I had I bet atleast one would have been broken.
