Looking for a comparison in person S54 S5X

I am gearing up for a 24v swap. I have herd a lot of people say just do the S5X. Its a lot of jun and cheaper and not anywhere near as complicated. Then I see that some say " I wish i would have done the S54." And the S54 has more power and is my absolute favorite BMW engine to date.

I would like to see if anyone in the norcal area has a S54 or a S5X that i can ride in, not drive unless you offer. Just so I can compare the two. People have told me this will help me decide between the two.

So far right now I am leaning to the S54.

I personally do not believe there is a comparison. If you have the means to do an S54 do an S54. It's almost always a pursuit of power for us......

If you can afford an s54, then why would you even consider an s50?

if you have the money, s54 is the bee's knees. i'd estimate it will cost at least $4000 more.

ask yourself if you would prefer to pocket that $4000, or do a turbocharged m52, or supercharged s52. lots of options to pick from.

Having ridden in an e46 m3, I bet it is a fantastic engine in an e30

IV ridden in a e46 m3 it was a blast. And as for cost I can save for it yeah I it what's making me think on it is the level of difficulty between the two cause the s54 is a nightmare to wire.

S54. The best inline 6. Until BMW makes a 400hp NA I6 (never), its the ultimate swap into an e30 in my book
I want a nice set of smoked MHW's (I know, get it line)

and you get the oem reliability with an s54 over the turbocharged s52. not say it is not reliable, just alot less worries.

Personally the S54 is the better engine, but it's weight is detrimental in trying to make a balanced car if that is your cup of tea. My S52 e30 is a 55F/45r weight distribution, and I quite dislike the distribution compared to an S14 M3, even though the S14 is down on power. There is always more power to be had, but it's more difficult to make a car handle as you please. Here I would choose the S52 and say it is fun enough for it's easy reliability and maintenance.

It's all about the cost. The S54 to do it right is going to be pretty expensive, whereas you can do an S5X for relatively cheap. There's also a lot more knowledge, and a lot less unknowns with an S5X.

the S65 has already been done before it looked hard as fuck.

i know i would not want that in my car. I am not a fan of V-type engines. that is personal preference theres nothing wrong with them just not my cup of tea.

                            as previously stated.

with luck you can get away with an s50/s52 swap for a couple grand, but more like 4k-6k if your not playing the waiting to get lucky type of game.

with the best luck in the western hemisphere, you could probably do an s54 swap for sub 6k. your honestly probably going to shell out near 10k + when all is said and done and you've got a huge grin on your face but a giant hole in your pocket.
