That's shitty. Tell the dude you'll go with him to the courthouse and pay the fees out of what you're giving him for the car.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment

The tickets stay with the owner ,they dont follow the car. Do yourself a favor and get new plates ($17) just in case you are parked and DMV hasn't made the switch in their system.
If you are still feeling uneasy just call AAA and sign it over on the spot. They will let you know exactly what is owed and hand you the registration.Comment

It is the car that takes up the parking space, but since the car has no money and no feeling, the owner would have to cough up $$$ for the tickets...just like parents are responsible for their kids.Comment

I recently registered a car that had parking tickets on it in the city of los angeles and paid nothing but the sales tax and fees. The lady behind the counter went as far as to say that the po had close to 600 dollars in tickets and that maybe I should get new plates but that's it.
Call AAA and talk to the dmv department, they will set you straight.
Deborah K. says:
You just need to submit to the DMV paperwork confirming non-ownership of the vehicle at the time the tickets were accrued. Their records should indicate who got the tickets.
I sold a car with tickets on it, and was still responsible. I was unable to renew my license without paying the tickets.
On the flip side, that same car GOT tickets after I sold it, and by showing the bill of sale I was able to confirm I wasn't responsible for the new tickets that the new owner got.
In fact, I think there's a little form you can fill out on the back of the letter you get informing you of the ticket, where you can claim you didn't own the car at the time.Last edited by mcskibadee1; 04-19-2013, 10:48 PM.Comment

Parking tickets stay with the car, not the owner. They are placed as a lien against the registration.
In WA, when you buy/sell a car, the date of sale determines who gets the tickets-
if you bought it after it got tickets, they're the problem of the PO.
If you don't do the paperwork properly, tho, you're on the hook.
tnow, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george gravesComment

Is it because the weather is so nice down there that everything else is just stupid?
