My co worker told me about a BMW similar to mine at a salvage yard in route to work and home. I asked if he could give me more details but all he could tell me is that it was an older BMW. My co worker lives in a rural part of MI and we both work for GM. BMW's in a GM town is very uncommon. After a week or so goes by I finally had the opportunity to visit the yard. I asked the front desk clerk if he had any older BMW's in his inventory and he told me he had just one. The clerk told me that the BMW was the only import in his entire inventory. He gave me a general location and welcomed me to take a look.
The BMW roof line was very easy to spot in the sea of domestic shells in this muddy yard. As I approached the car I could start to identify that it was an e30 or e21. Upon getting closer it was indeed an e30. To my surprise it was a late year plastic bumper e30! Emotions started to run as I got closer seeing what seems to be a pretty good body resting on rotors. Upon inspection the e30 was complete minus the wheels. There wasn't even any significant door dings. The interior seemed pretty mint besides the cracks in the dash and the non sport seats. How could someone junk such a beautiful car?
I pulled the 99% complete tool kit, complete owners manual and a roundel.
I asked the clerk if they were able to sell cars and he said of course they could. I asked how much he take for it and said $800. I left that price on the table to allow more research for a counter offer. What do you guys think? My love for BMW's has started making me think with emotions so your help will be appreciated.
The clerk did tell me that the engine was toast.
