    Florida drivers

I'm going to fly in to Miami and will be renting a car.

I'm wondering if I will need a child seat or a booster seat for 5 year old boy to drive in Florida?

He is about 4ft 3in tall and 55-60lb.

absolutely - a 5 point harness is the safest option for any child under 80lbs.

As long as he drives within the times of his driving permit (usually 5am to 11pm) he should be fine.

You'll also probably have to pay a bit more for the rental since he's under the age of 25.

haha...Sorry for the poorly worded question....

I read online and it looks like if the child is over 5 years of age, the car seat or booster seat is not required? I want to clarify this with r3v.

To be on the safe side just get a cheap booster from Wal-Mart after you get here. I'm in NE Florida otherwise I'd lend you one of mine. Look up the current law on child wieght vs. what seat you need. When my little girl was 5 it was a 40lbs weight limit. Not sure what it is now.

                        Florida seat belt laws:

Be warned...Florida drivers are not the most educated and/or respectful around. Of all my travels within the US, this city has the worst I have seen.
