So I can fly to the Seattle, buy a car, deal with customs and importation, and then do a bunch of additional work, and still pay the same, or nearly the same, total price at the end of the day.

    Or

Buy a local car and call it a day.

I'm not sure I see what the advantage is to buying a US car in this case?

Yup, I understand that. But it's still tough to figure out what's a fair price for a mint car here in Canada. Prices are all over the place. But oh well. In my case, the price is what it is. I just need to decide if it's the right price (and the right car) for me.

Got some pics and more info? I'm intrigued.....
My fs thread here, and I am in Canada so no importation!!! Lol, lmk if you want other pics. The car has rear headrests install, not shown in the pics.

^ Cool. Thanks for the link to your sale thread. Your car is beautiful and rare, but I'd rather stick with a local guy for a purchase of this magnitude, if I go with this purchase at all. Thanks for the heads-up though.

Overall, based on this thread and the Canadian input, and even looking at some sale threads on this forum, and even some of the Craigslist links that have been posted in this thread, it sounds like the car I'm considering may be "reasonably priced" after all, considering the market here in Calgary. i.e. it's not that far our of whack compared to what others are asking for.....

To Buy, Or Not To Buy..... that is the question.

Yes, Shakespeare is rolling in his grave right now......

I'm confused. You gave two examples. One was to buy a $7,000 car and out $1,000 more into it (total of $8,000) and the other was to buy a $3,000 car and put another $3,000 into it (total of $6,000). What was the $3,800 option?

And yeah, it's a real bummer that cars (new or used) cost quite a bit more up here. But oh well. What can you do?

trying to say that if you bought one for 3k you could have 3 k or mor to get it up to the 8k you would spend and have a mint rebuilt car.Or just drive it like it is and save allot.Than trying to tell you you could buy a 7 k full m-tech add 1 k to get to 8k and have a car thats worth 10-12 k but its your deal.for me I just cant imagine paying 8k on a regular vert unless its 1.full restored 2.s52 swapped3.low miles 40k with great paint perfect body perfect interior.

So I gave it some more thought, and I've decided that that $8,000 '92 325iC just isn't the right car for me right now. Aside from the high price, I really set out on my E30 quest with the goal of finding an inexpensive and decent condition car, to get my feet wet in the world of E30's and see if and when I want to take things to a higher level. This 325iC was sort of a trophy car, with it's excellent condition and it's corresponding high price. And that's simply not what I'm looking for as my first E30 experience.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and advice. It's greatly appreciated!

Haha. An E30 M3 would be nice. ;)

But saving up isn't an issue, as I've mentioned in some of my other threads. I have a high performance car already, and have owned other high performance cars in the past. So I'm not looking for a balls-out performance E30. I have the resources to afford a more expensive E30, but the point is that I'm not necessarily looking for the best E30 I can find. I'm looking for the best value E30 I can find. This 325iC is the best E30 I've come across so far, but I don't think it's the best value I've seen so far. I think the best value would have been the 1984 325e that I just missed out on buying a couple of months ago.

But all is good! The hunt continues!

Wow, $8k for a vert? I feel like maybe you were still looking in the wrong places. Well, good luck with the new car either way.

if you really like the car, you have the money, and it's what you're looking for, just buy it. Chances are good whichever e30 you buy you'll need to spend a grand or so on parts under the hood (belts, hoses, fluids, sensors..) but that applies to nearly any e30 that you're going to find outside of restored cars.

it sounds a little overpriced but think of what you think the car is worth and make him an offer if it's really the car you want..

I'm gonna venture a guess and say you didn't read the whole 2-page thread.
