how in your mind is that not fixable? your insurance company will want to total the car out. negotiate the best deal you can. once you have settled, tell them you want to buy the car back. use the proceeds to fix it. pocket the extra money. live happily ever after.

and hypothetically if you wanna be a total sketch bag later on you dont have to disclose it...
i personally would have a body shop with a frame straightener look at it, it may need a slight pull to avoid any alignment issues. because if you do plan on not reporting it and not having a salvage title then you need to fix it right. banging out fenders with hammers is for salvaged beaters not other wise clean cars.BroWorks.com Bro is a lifestyle

More than bend you over, I was involved in a head on crash that was 100% not my fault (guy in a suburban made a left on a green light infront of two cops as soon as I entered the intersection hit him doing 40 mph, he was most likely drunk) Insurance appraised my truck with 44k miles, 6 years old at the time, flawless paint at 11k. They ended up waffleswaffleswaffleswafflesing me by giving me his 5k cap, MY own insurance company closed my case without even telling me. Long story short, I lawyered the waffleswaffleswaffleswaffles up, threw my truck on craigslist, sold it luckily for $2500. With what little money I had left over between working and the settlement I bought another of the same truck (literally saved my life) and an e30.
You do not have to give them your car, but as soon as they do come and look at your car and appraise the damage. Kiss it goodbye.
Edit: I know this involves an un-insured deer and all, but moral of the story is insurance companies are out for their best interest not yours one bit. Regardless of who you are with.

Also its not like insurance is your only option here. If fixing the car is not in the cards for you op you can also part it out and use that money to buy a new car. Thats what I did about a year ago when my car was rear ended by someone who fled the scene.
Its alot of work but in the end I came out on top. Its always sad to see yet another chassis scrapped, do what you gotta go I guess

huh....i know the rules are different in different states. here in texas, if you don't hand the title over the the insurance company, they cannot make it salvage.
my first e30 was a 91 318i cabrio that belonged to my neighbor's wife. i had been after her to buy it for a long time. one day i rode past the house and there was a new 540i sitting in the driveway. i stopped to ask if the 318 was in the shop. she said she was in a little fender bender(similar damage to the op's car but a little less severe.) and the insurance company paid her off for it. she still had the title sitting on the kitchen counter, but they had already sent a tow truck to pick up the car and take it to the auction lot. i asked if they could please call the insurance company and see if it was still possible to buy the car back. they did and it was. i ended up buying the car for 900 bucks. that day i went up to the lot and had it loaded on my trailer to take home with me. when the title was transferred, it came back as a clean blue title. nothing salvage there.
if you never turn the title over the the insurance company, i don't see how they can turn it into salvage?sigpic
