      Lol

And do autos have a 4 bolt flange or is that driveshaft also in backwards somehow?

That is messed up! I have swapped four auto to 5spd conversions. None looked like that hahah. I guess the input of the differential will fit on the output the the transmission...

No guibo either, cant see how that would be beneficial.

I have heard that some non-us spec auto cars did not use a guibo. maybe somebody else can chime in but I know I have heard of it before so it is possible that's what it is, what car is this on?

I have seen that on an 86 eta auto as well.

Yes it's an early eta, '84. The drive shaft looks relatively new, possibly replaced at some point. I've had the car for over a year and never thought about replacing the flex disc because it has always driven smoothly. Oddly enough the car came with some spare parts including a new flex disc. I guess the PO wanted to change it for maintenance purposes but couldn't, lol. Realoem doesn't show any 4 bolt flanges but the Internet says that they're out there, this is a first for me too. Seems like a radical change from what is considered "normal" for BMW drive line specs. The trans mounts definitely need an update!

Oddly enough I was only in there because I changed the diff, 2.79 --> 4.10 LSD and the drive shaft popped out, doh...and of course there were no alignment marks for proper balanced reassembly...oh well I found what, looked like sticker residue on the front shaft and matched that up with a red arrow sticker on the rear section driveshaft. So far so good.

Its weird. I was at the local pic a part last weekend and saw an 87 is auto with the same set up.

My bronzit 86 car was like that too, also my buddys 86 ES, also like that. It has something to do with the other slight changes done in mid 86. Also includes, sheet metal to cast aluminum shift carrier, single mass to dual mass flywheel, there are a few others too.

                            Good info fellas.

Quick question, I did the 4.10 diff swap and I'm thinking it's just too low for my likes. 2500 rpm at 60 mph does not make an eta happy. After 15 mins on the freeway, my car didn't want to go into revesre...I am wondering if the fluid got too hot or caused some trans. valve to get sticky.

The gear selector would engage R, but no movement with revs. Drive was fine. After engaging R and revving a little higher got the fluid flowing and eventually engaged. It's been a day and so far Reverse seems back to normal.

I know...autotragic, but different symptoms from the 4hp22 "clutch pack A" failures.

                            Any ideas?
