Euro 3.5L M30 Project for the 535iS. UPDATED WITH PICS!!

Well, I bought the engine on saturday and got it in the trunk of the E28.
I just unloaded it at school and got it on a roller cart where the flywheel, damper and pully were the first things to come off.
I noticed that the #1 rod cap was black while the others were all gold.
I pulled the cap to find that the bearing had spun, but the crank is not scored and it looks ok in there.
I knew this motor would have an issue or 2 and its a relief to see this, but hopefully it is all.
I will post some pics of the progress and how the rest of the teardown goes.

    Plans for it are:
Late Model M30 Cam from E32/E34
Late model intake manifold from E34
    valve job
    re-hone
    port/polish the head
    resurface head for 10:1 CR

This motor will be putting out around 230 HP when I am done with it, and about the same amount of Torque. My E28 is fast with the stock 182 HP so I can't wait to feel another 50 HP with a small bump in torque too...
Should be around 6-8 weeks start to finish.

    Wish me luck! 8)

Sounds good man. I have a friend who had an e28 535is. That was a very fast car with the stock engine. With that extra power you should have a fun daily.

haha, yea daily driver that kills 90% of cars on the road :P

I thought my M3 was a great daily driver... then I did the 2.5L and stopped driving it because its too nice for daily driving. It will be hard to keep my 5er from getting to that point, as I already want to repaint it, reupholster the interior and do the suspension/wheels... after the motor of course... I will take at least 2 years to do all this to this car, so it will serve me well as a daily driver until then. 8)

man, I wish! I still need my friend to start parting out his E28 so I can get the parts I need and then do it. I am waiting for a good taillight and then I will do the whole car...

dude, I thought E30's were the end-all of cool cars, but no way.
I have WAY more fun with the 535iS than I did with my 325E (of course, right?).
These are awesome cars, plain and simple.

I think my view on E30's is scewed because I have had 2 e30 M3's and a '85 325E, and my opinion of non-M E30's is probably not what it should be, after owning an M3, you just CANNOT compare the 2 cars.

Sure, I like the E28, but what about the 6 series? If I had the money, I'd love to own a 6-er, M or not. But good luck with the engine project, I wish I had the know-how to do something like that on my M42...Good luck!
                        Reminiscing...

there isn't much you could do with the M42 that would yeild a ton of power, or be worthwhile... hell, I am not even tweaking the M30 that much, just a bit so I can hopefully hit 230hp, or 200rwhp would be my ultimate goal...

Ryan, I'm not trying to call you out or correct you. I'm sorry if I came across that way in the other post. But please understand, that motor has a very high chance of pinging with 10:1 compression. This is an especially bad situation with this being a daily car for you.

I understand that you run 10.8 on your M3, but the S14 is a different motor. It's mostly a question of static vs. dynamic compression ratios. This is why you can run such a high number in your M3 but an M20 will ping at anything above about 9.5 on pump gas.

Once again, not trying to be one of those guys that has a hard on for correcting people all the time; I'm just throwing out what my experience has taught me...If that motor does not ping on pump gas with 10:1 I will be VERY suprised.
