So what is the current reasoning on gas spiking?

Syria? Egypt? both kinda no factors. Iran? China's economy fizzling suddenly since Walmart and other big box stores sales are slow.

US employment numbers or the sudden reality that houses are not selling and the Fed's raised the interest rate.

I must have missed the critical news. Oh well since I'm home I'll just stay-cation in my own place.

It's summer. Every year gas prices spike in the summer, and every year people have a freak out about it. The reason is that it's hot and lots of folks are traveling.

Should have gone up back at memorial day then. That marks the begining of the 120 days of summer. Fuel normally goes up then not randomly in the middle of July.

You have to watch oil prices on the stock market, a jump of more than $10 a barrel

Yeah but we all know those are fake numbers. Still no real reason for crude to be spiking besides investors doing the silly speculation game.

Ok so supplies are down by a bit that is because we are not using it much from what a gather as the amount of refined gasoline in inventory remains the same so jump the price so someone makes a profit.

Funny they say currently there is a glut of tankers and the cost of them has gone down.

I think it went down on Memorial day here. And on holidays when one would think it would go up. It doesn't move.

Don't refineries normally shut down for maintenance in the summer? I figure that can't help the price go down

Refinery maintenance shut downs are planned years in advance. It really depends - permitting, engineering, material availability, etc all affect the timing. Its not neccesarily summer, and refineries dont just shut down on a whim..

simply supply and demand of a commodity mixed in with the fact that people speculate the price of oil on the stock market. price spikes are based on fear and rumor often times.

every time there is a product to market disturbance of some minimal sort, the price spikes based largely on what i mentioned above. it isn't because the cost of the product is suddenly and miraculously higher. kinda bullshit, actually.

People like to travel during the summer. There for gas companies have us by the balls during the summer and know they can get away with murder. Same resin a set of 6 razor blades is $35. They know you need it and they know you will pay it.

For fear of looking like a crackpot I'm just going to
comment that it's going just as planned. Prices go up up up.

There was a recent gas tax hike here in california that got slipped it when
nobody was looking. What's the goal?

Not crackpot, they love money, we'll pay it, just how it works. Honestly we're lucky they don't gouge us more, they could jump it up to $10 and we'll bitch, but we'll pay.
