We brought over a e30 from Canada and did nothing but register it.
you're talking about an e30 that was intended for canada that you just brought to the u.s. u.s. and canadian cars are interchangeable pretty much

he's talking about a car that is from germany, which was brought to canada, that he wants to bring to the u.s.

here's the problem; if a vehicle is not from u.s. or canada; in the u.s. a car has to be 25 years or older to register it, otherwise it has to be federalized

in canada, the car has to be 15 years old or older

so canadians can bring in e30s that are 15 years old or older. but americans would have to wait 10 more years

Ok, I understand the situation now, but Im wondering if there is a way around it.
Would it help if the vehicle was registered in the US without a title?
I ask because I could get the car registered in VT. without needing a title.

how do you register the car without a title? you dont give them the vin?

they just take your word that the car is what you say it is?

Give the DMV a bill of sale, they calculate the tax, you pay, they give you plates. Vehicles over 10 or 15 years old (cant remember which) are not required to have a title.

looks like I'm getting a PO box in VT!

also the fact that my sister lives in canada could seriously improve my chances of bringing a euro car back with me when i leave germany in a few years, correct?

on this bill of sale, is the vin number there?

Yes, Seller writes name, address, vin#, miles, year, make, model. It can be something as simple as a post it note, as long as the seller and buyer sign it.

In NH you can register with just proof of ownership, usually just a bill of sale, once the car is 15 years old. It used to be 10 but they just changed.

Bringing a Candian car to the US is what I was explaining before. If its a euro car its much more expensive and time consuming.

It'll still get flagged when they put the VIN into the system... even here in NH/VT.

It wont go through, its not that simple.... trust me.
