I was gonna give my typical "Don't buy and e30, it'll ruin your life" speech, but it seems like you've got a good head on your shoulders

Just finished talking to a buddy who wants an e30 for a "clean, reliable, daily driver that [he] doesn't have to dump money into". I was like.. Look sonny, you only THINK you want an e30: if your looking for a reliable daily driver, buy a Civic.

Seems like you're in the game for the right reasons.
Timing Belt + Water Pump + Thermostat
      Coolant flush
      Valve Adjustment
      Air Filter + Boot
      Spark Plugs
      Oil Change

Should be your main objectives, after that its 5-speed and LSD swap if your automagiccing and then suspension upgrades/refresh and aesthetics

Local r3v-build threads can also give you ideas of where to go along the way

I have had a lot of good results with seafoam. As long as you do it correctly, you shouldn't have any problems. Not saying it is a magic make your car run better/gain HP fluid, but it does improve sluggish throttle response, especially on cars that have not had any maintenance done to it.

You've still got a handbrake. Death to the rubber accordion.

I like you; you seem to have your head on straight for a young person. It's easy to swap to a manual also, so when you've got some more experience you'll be able to upgrade.

Well since everyone here seems to like you, can we be frans? I've been trying to gain more acceptance and I feel that being your friend will help me with that.

When I had my automatic, I took that ugly shift plate indicator thing off and put a manual boot on it. Looks so much cleaner.

Me too. Looked great. Every auto should have it.

I try to see things from a realistic standpoint. I'm pretty sure I've seen your project thread. The wood grain valve cover is awesome, and I'll give you props for that. I'm still keeping mine stock though. Although painting the valve cover is somewhere around the bottom of my to do list.

Coming soon. Right now I can't afford the camera I want so I'm using iPhone 5 as a camera for now. The amount of parts I could buy with the money the camera cost is quite substantial.

Plug it, play it, burn it, rip it
Drag and drop it, zip - unzip it
Lock it, fill it, call it, find it
View it, code it, jam - unlock it
Surf it, scroll it, pause it, click it
Cross it, crack it, switch - update it

Turn it, leave it, start - format it.

All of the logical and worthwhile posts have been posted, you seem to be on your way to the roller-coaster ride of the e30 ownership.

Just know, that once you get one of these cars, you'll always have one or long for one. They come back in your life, you don't leave the e30 world, e30s may come and go, but you'll always be just moments away from enjoying the next one. They carve out a small piece of your heart, and you'll never get that part back, they are in your soul, for better or worse.

I've already accepted that fate and I completely understand it. It is a 1989 though, so I don't have the air bag steering wheel (unfortunately and fortunately). Basically, what I'm trying to say is that if I get into an accident, seat belts included, I would most likely die. And to be honest, I think I'm okay with that. If it happened and survived, the first thing I'm doing is hitting the classifieds.

Because everyone that gets in an accident without an airbag is going to die.

Better play it safe and just stay in bed on the internet.

Nobody mentioned vacuum lines. Replace them all, they're 20 years old and rubber and most likely leaking in multiple places.
