I'm wondering if the 4 series production will make our old 3 series e30's up in value even more ;)

turbocharged inline 6 though.. I would have loved to see another small displacement, high revving v8.

      Damn emissions standards:hitler:

What astonishes me is everyone says oh it's got turbo's due to emissions yet the new corvette gets amazing MPG's and emissions on par and potentially exceeding the upcoming m3 specs while being a "oh lord have mercy *gasp* V8 engine !!!! If good old boys can make a pushrod get 30mpg highway and 460+HP I think BMW needs to go back to the drawing board a bit here...but again it's all to sell units and keep good ties with suppliers so alas we get turbo inline 6's.

I've given it a while, and I'm starting to really like it, more than I ever did the e92 M3. I like how the the kidney grills and headlights meet each other, the wider body, the mirrors, and I love exposed CF roof panels. It looks planted, like it's ready to get to business. It also looks expensive as hell. The 4 series identity doesn't bother me so much, it just doesn't make sense that BMW is dividing their models up; whatever, things change. I'd order one without badges or just take them off.

Disagree. For BMW, my '68 1600-2 is basically the same size as my E30.

Seriously. I looked at this thing in person last sunday and its a whale. If I wanted a 5 series, I'd buy one. The front end is way too busy, the rear end is way too high. Thanks, I'll pass. I don't care if I'll loose in a straight line race, give me my M3 any day of the week.

The car industry needs to get away from building battleships. Big and heavy with all sorts of watchdog features doesn't make you safer, it makes you lazy and more dangerous. Not to mention what happens when the watchdog features die suddenly and the car does something really strange (like suddenly appling the brakes mid corner on an on/off ramp when it confuses the guard rail for something more solid or something like that.) If you are one of those people who thinks they need all the watchdog features, you shouldn't be behind the wheel of a vehicle. Not to mention that all of these high tech goodies make for a more distracted driver. You aren't in the car to surf the internet (or whatever else the car can do) , you are there to drive.

What can I say, I'm not impressed and will never own one or have any interest in driving one.

GM did have to resort to things like their skip-shift "technology" to achieve those numbers. Still, I'm completely with you. 30mpg out of a 7 liter v8 is pretty damn impressive nonetheless.

Except nowadays if you bought a 5 series, you would end up with a 7 series:(

Pebble Beach/Munich. On 15 August, surrounded by both current and historic BMW models, BMW M tonight offered a first outlook on a high-performance sports car of tomorrow – the BMW Concept M4 Coupe. The car was unveiled at the BMW opening media reception for the iconic annual Pebble Beach/Monterey automobile weekend. “The BMW Concept M4 Coupe reflects the BMW M philosophy in ideal form: It combines motor racing genes and unrestricted everyday suitability in a highly emotional overall concept. For four generations, the BMW M3 has put motor racing on the road and the BMW Concept M4 Coupe consistently continues to pursue this fundamental idea. The new model designation “M4” refers – like all other BMW M automobiles – to the series on which this concept car is based,” explains Dr. Friedrich Nitschke, President BMW M Division.

BMW Concept M4 Coupe – the true essence of BMW M.
This is the punch line for a Four.
