I like how everyone votes to save e30s that are arguably junkers but most everyone here thinks e28s aren't worth it. The 535is is becoming rarer and rarer and is a great investment if you can get it for a good price and can do much of the work it needs yourself. Also, they don't handle like trucks at all, trucks handle like trucks. I had an 87 535is as my first car and that thing was a beast. With the right suspension and tires it's an amazing car. They're only about 400 pounds heavier than a stock 325is with a bigger engine, if you lose some weight and add some power it can be a rocketship.

PO, make sure there's nothing shady with the car, then get him below $2000 and pull an axle and driveshaft from a junkyard. Perfect opportunity to put a beefy guibo on it so you won't have to mess with it as often. Still keep your e30 though, have the best of both worlds.

I was never hating on e28s, just stating how I feel they drive in comparison to an E30.

And if you think an e28 on cut springs handles good, then you should try driving a sorted out e30......

E28s are cool cars, and I really dig them too, but and e30 is a ton more fun to drive unless your talking about an M5. (which is not what the OP was talking about)

You guys must have never been in one of these Alpina B7 turbos before.

I like e28s and also e30s, there is a time and place for both of them.

I really don't understand the hate.

    Usually everyone is loving e28s.

    Awesome analogy.

Also, I didn't think that my e28 drove like a tank. I thought it felt smoother than a baby's bottom and absolutely glued to the pavement. It was heavy though. Like others have said, great dd material.

Slammin' is feeling a little sad. Guys, say some nice things about your e28s please.

dude, drive which ever car will make you happy. neither car is all that rare or expensive. if you sell the e30 and drive the e28 for a year. you'll know which you will like better and drive that.

I had an 87 535is, 5spd, great car but much more truck like. Drive great but not very sporty. It'd make a great dd

I hate my e28. Trying to trade it for a Subaru my friend has. I have the 528, which is a step under what you're looking at, but still. Only things I like are the feel of the steering, and the braking. It's a little stiffer then the e30 which I like.

They aren't as nearly fun to drive as the e30. But I wouldn't mind one for a commuter car. Plenty of room for other people in the back .

But then again Id rather have a (non v8 ) e34 ANY DAY of the week over an e28 . Drove a BEAT M20 e34 and it was so much better then the e28.

E28's get a thumbs down for me. They indeed do feel like you're driving a dump truck, but you would think to make up for that, it would be more comfortable and luxurious right? Nope, they don't even feel that much more luxurious than an E30.

WOW lol thanks for the input guys.. i really just posted this thread just to see what some peoples opinions were..and went straight to bed..lol

what i am surprised by is that some of the e28 "homers" are also saying..NO.. I was just thinking what another member said, that it seems like a logical next step.. plus i have always had a soft spot for the e28 for some reason...plus a vert in the summer as a DD is perfect.. but winter is a different story..(ask me how i know)

and in the e28 owners defense, the e28 he had for 5 years after the Original owner sold it to him.. he has done an excellent job restoring it..and the vin checks out as it being a accident free car. I believe what a member said him being in over his head/slightly incompetent :p its just a shame.. b/c a part of me wanted to save it..lol

my e30 is a bit better than 1/2 way to where i want it and just a few things are needed to have it completely restored (rear bushings, new dash, front seats redone, and eventually this coming spring a mtech2 kit and a new paint job.)

thanks again for the advice guys this basically just reaffirmed what i was leaning toward

the e30 shall stay and i will either find a hard top for winter or save really quick for a winter beater..lol

yeah, who's going to put a new paint job on a 25 year old car, that doesn't drive, and then immediately sell if the car is in such great condition?
