Amen to that. These aren't 325e's.

If you buy this, and rat it out, I will stab you in the eye.

Rob, there are several high powered S14's dominating the race tracks owned mostly by people who don't come on the boards. As for the FG/CF owns M50 weight gain comment, remember that with an S14 with AFM removed and CF intake/hood, the car will be THAT much more lighter up front. There's more to being fast than just HP!

      M3 S14 2.3 (284/276 cams/GrpA header/48mm TBs/CF DTM intake/Maxx Alpha N programmable computer) ....209rwhp untuned.

barry, please dont think I dont appreciate the s14 or the standpoint that you and chris have, I most definately do. I would have no qualms about a swap in my M3 (if only I had one :P ), but obviously there are people that do, and thats fine. I'll revert to the old "Different strokes" adage, and let that be that...

you need 15k in cash to buy that car, because it will cost you that much in upkeep in the next 12 mo.

you don't have to be rich, just responsible.

I am far from rich, and I maintain my M3 just fine... I am 21 years old and I don't live at home.

Yes definitely be sure to have a good chunk of spare cash left over after you buy the car or the maintenance repairs will own your ass. :P

Don't worry about the low asking price, most used car dealers are clueless about these cars, just be sure its thoroughly checked out.

Hell, I talked the dealer down to only $7k for my 75k miles M3 when I bought it in '01!!! 8)

Is this the same Unhcll that accused everyone of flaming because we didnt like the green dash lights?

I personally dont think he is going to build up the S14 as a SCCA car. If he wants the S50 he probably wants a simple motor that has more daily drivability (and dont give me the "I drive my M3 everyday", I have a friend who drives a Lotus TTV8 everyday and even he admits its a bitch).

My point is its his car. If I had unlimited money I would build up the motor to whatever and just keep fixing it when something goes wrong. If I had a good chunk of change I could see owning an M3 and if the S14 had a catostorphic failure I would probably change to a different motor. If I still wanted the S14 feel maybe a gen2 S2K motor. If I was flat broke I wouldnt be buying an M3, except as possibly a second car but even then if I was flat broke how could I afford it?

If I wanted a track car I would NOT be buying a clean M3, I would probably buy a ragged 325i so I wouldnt feel bad about raggin it out. A clean car I would just enjoy daily. And I know there is more to fast than HP. I've beat M3s around tracks in an Eta, and I am a noob at racing.
                Im now E30less.

If I could afford insurance on a 5.0 at 16-17 and then a Z28 at 18 ..do you really think insurance on an M3 at 25 will be problem?

Maintenance and upkeep will not be much of an issue. As many of you know I wheel/deal in BMW parts/cars new/used...so I have LOTs of resources.I have 12 e30 parts cars and lots of contacts.Yahoo groups alone is enough for ANY m3 part.
I also currently have 4 "daily drivers". My highly modded 87 325is, mild mod 90 325is, stock 87 325e, 00 Ford Ranger. And I just picked up two more e30's today! A mint 84 318i at an estate auction with 96,000 miles...not even kidding. And a Bronzit 87 325e 4dr at a police auction. I will be adding the brozit to the daily lineup and dropping my other 325e.The 318i is going to my bro as I do not want to own 3 alpine weis cars!
So as you can tell the M3 will see very little roadtime till I graduate this Fall with BBA-Finance.
After that the gloves come off and out will go the s14 and hopefully in an mildly worked s50.So it just needs to least maybe 1-2k miles before I get to work on it next winter.
The E30 M3 is just the perfect platform for me to mod as a weekend cruiser...import/domestic bruiser. It is the most Perfect e30 form ever produced.
Even kitted 325is' dont even come close to the e30 m3 stock look.Everything just flows in the m3.

Enough rant.If anyone want s to save this M3 from me if I get it.$11000 and its yours! No takers....just what I thought. Thanks for your input guys.Im still waiting on another finace company. The first wanted %18!!! Ill be happy with at most %12.Remember this is still a 14 yr old car in their eyes....thus the higher rate.

You gonna toss nitrous on this one and wreck it like your 'ic as well?

Don't buy an m3 with the idea of a swap. Buy the m3, if the s14 pops, then think of a swap, otherwise, just build a regular e30 to the hilt. 90% of the attraction of the m3 is the motor, ripping that out for a run of the mill US block is pointless.

Better yet, since you seem to be in love with the m50 based engine, just pick up an e36 m3, you'll like it so much better as a "cruiser".

Quick question, how did you know it was a euro car from just driving by? Is it a true with one digit short in the vin and has the paper work been done properly so your car when you buy it and goto register it is not taken by the Registery of Motor Vehicles?

What you want to do with your cash is your thing I could care less. I did however see one being advertised on Roadfly for the same dollar value yesterday that just went up on the sight.

Do you have any pics yet?

You'd be surprised what M3's cost to insure.
and a properly "kitted" 325is will pass as an M3 until the closest inspection (ie: Vin #)

Do whatever you want with it... but I echo the sentiments of Charlie about swapping in a run of the mill engine.

Your 12 e30 parts cars wont help with the M3. Nothing is the same.

If you really believed that, you'd leave the engine in it. But this is like intellectual masterbation, its pointless. I'm a purist, you arent. We'll agree to disagree.
