E46 M3 daily? Any other suggestions?

Guys I need some insight, I'm in the market for a newer daily going to retire the old 3er to do some modding to it.
First thing I looked for was an e46 m3 I found one for 11.5k (check link)

My problem is out of warranty maintenance, at that price its a steal but many problems probably follow. I'm wondering if I could purchase this car and some how get a decent insurance for covering maintenance/parts costs? If you guys know any good companies thats would be great or any other way I should go about this and have coverage for costs i.e. for replacing smg related parts and such.

Also any other daily driver suggestions are also welcome my only thing is it must be rwd and manual.

I'm going off to work in a bit so I'm just going to leave this here.

Insurance does not cover maintenance. And from what I have seen about those used car warranty's will basically leave you high and dry without your car fixed.

It's got 181K on it? yeah lookd for an Lexus IS300. RWD and 5 speed is available. E46 M3 hope that sucker has a inch plus thick of routine work receipts.

wrx. solid engines good for a trillion miles if it's been taken care of.
181k mi is a lot for for the e46 from what I've heard.

or a lexus I guess if you really need rwd in a somewhat modern car.

The E46 M3 is a gas guzzler for a daily. What about a ZHP 330i? They're a little bit harder to find, but for the same price you could snag a clean one with low mileage.

I remember reading this thread a while back. Most people say anywhere between 15-20 combined MPG. But it also depends on the type of driving you do. Highway only, I've read people getting 25+.

330zhp are not cheap or easy to find...around here anyway. If maintenance cost is a factor your best to stay with a Japanese car.... I would look at a tl if I were in your situation. Great cars reliable sporty. Rwd is overrated for a dd.

Hmm I forgot about the Lexus is300 on my list. I've heard many good things about them looks good to for a modern Japanese car.

I wanted to keep it in the family but I guess any bmw made after 2000 just comes with curse. If I were to get a subie I would preferably get the wrx with the clear tail lights 09ish model?

My e30 gets 250-300 on a tank and I think that's a gas guzzler for city driving ill get like 150, auto's suck especially with a 2.93lsd making longer gears then necessary. I don't mind paying for gas though.
I was looking at the 330i zhp's I'm not a fan of the facelift headlight but if I can find a decent one ill have a look at it. Most e46 m3's I've seen are nearing 100k or well into it even on sites like auto trader and such. I've seen a few zhp's on CL but they still inherit typical e46 problems. Still on my list tho

Maintenance is a factor, I'm just looking for something where I don't have to dumb 5k into little things here and there and major parts failing. Typical wear and tear items are no big. TL are nice but I'm not to keen on Honda's, Acura's
I've seen few zhp's on my local CL

A daily driver should be something you can easily afford to fix.

Second the IS300, though I don't know why you need RWD for a daily...

I prefer the handle of and feel of a rwd then a fwd I do understand where you guys are coming from. Is300 with the n/a 2jz motor? Or the newer ones if we're to buy that particular is300 with the 2jz I might as well buy a mkiv supra :) I can find one easily hehe supra for a daily.

Handle and feel for what - going to work? FWD cars are lots of fun, not sure why R3v hates on them so much. Anyway, to each his own.

                              Definitely the first generation IS.

If you want to get creative a J30 with a five speed swap would be super cool.
