started out with a 2005 TDI I bought brand new, was a lemon, worst car ever. Downgraded to a 97 Golf 1.8CL which was slow as balls but very reliable, turned out to be a huge upgrade compared to the TDI. Sold that, upgrade to a 2004 R32, still own that one, gonna be up for sale soon as my E30 is craving a swap. R32 gave me nothing but joy and smiles, absolutely amazing car.

Fiance started out with a 2002 golf 2.0, car was always reliable and she owned it for over 6 years and put on 90K miles. Upgraded to a 2008 R32 a few months ago and isnt looking back. Another great car.

Still a huge VW/Audi lover, always will be. Every brand can have shitty cars, just gotta be lucky and stay away. Right now I have 2 different generation R32's at my house along with my E30. The 2004 R32 will be sold and funds will most likely to go a Audi B6 A4 avant ;)

I like VW's and Audi's. Hell I like anything with wheels, never been single brand biased. My first car that got me "into" cars was a 94 Passat VR6. Absolute turd and barely worked but I loved it.

It's nice to see all the different responses on here. I was expecting a backlash, but it seems that is very subtle at this point.

At one point, I was very brand oriented towards BMW. My X5 changed that, although it didn't give me problems as much as other people have had. I still have my E46 and E30, E30 currently being swapped and boosted (2.7i + tarbo). I recently picked up a TDI and it's nice for what it is. Gas mileage is definitely excellent in it compared to the 15 mpg I was getting in the X5. It's a brand new car, so it is going to make or break my opinion on it after the lease is up.

One thing I can say is the exuberant amount of overengineering on their cooling systems.

I also have been a VW fan, I sold my MK2 Jetta GLI 1.8T to buy my now IX. Before that I had a 91 GTI 16V 2.0, 92 Jetta 1.8 and others.

I work at an Audi dealership here in Tampa. Reeves Import Motorcars. There are multiple franchises here like BMW, Porsche, Land Rover, Maserati, ect. I have driven many many new cars from different manufactures. And I was once, just like you, brand oriented towards BMW.

I was a sales porter for Audi so I got to drive EVERY single new Audi, many modded. CVT A4 to Stasis supercharged V10 R8. Do you know what I discovered?

            THEY ARE EXCELLENT CARS!

I will tell you that one of the best new cars on the road right now is the new Audi S4. God damn, that thing is wonderful. If I could afford it, I would buy one no questions asked. Plenty of room, wonderful driving feel, looks awesome, the supercharged V6 is phenomenal and the low down torque never gets tiring. I could go on and on. And it's strange how the S5 offers a completely different (not as good) driving feel. One down side is gas mileage, but seriously... You're not buying an S4 for the good MPG's.

We had a 6 speed STASIS S4 with exhaust, spring, tune, rear sway, wheels & tires, ect. Fucking perfect man. Exhaust note tickled my youknowwhat, the tune made it so damn quick, it looked spot on.....

Yeah I could go on and on. Driven plently of 335is' and they are lacking, seriously. They are disconnected. Quick as a sonuvabitch, but it's not up to par.

            *business talk*
I'll end this by saying I'm currently selling cars at Reeves. If you're from the area and you or anyone you know wants to buy a car from Reeves, give me a shout. I'd love to help you out!

VW stopped making cars after 1992 ;)

I prefer the Mark I and Mark II

VR6's are very nice though, I like those motors.

The exact same thing can be said about BMWs. Anything BMW made after 1991 is ugly and unreliable.

Have/had a few early Audis, absolute blast to own and drive. Had a 2002 allroad, most unreliable and insanely complex car I ever had. I'd never even get close to a VW.

Owned a 2004 A4 Avant and loved it until I modded it a bit too far and it became a maintenance queen. If I buy another Audi it would a B6A4 Avant again as it has beautiful body lines.

I DD a B6 avant, its good for what it is. good on gas and i have room carry stuff. They are very sensitive cars and theirs parts are over priced! Am a die hard BMW guy, as soon as i locate an XI WAGON 5 SPD, the avant is gone!

Best ice car I have ever driven. With Blizzaks on, it is shocking how good a winter car it is. (I have gotten it stuck in 2 foot deep heavy snow, however, and I don't even have the sport suspension)

Had an early Scirocco, wore it out. Great looking car - Giugiaro-designed. Toyed with GTIs over the years, never bought one. My wife's brother has a new Golf tdi with the sport suspension and nice interior. It is a nice car with a ton of torque!

I love to drive the Audi, especially on road trips in the twisties or in the winter. But the engineering and packaging is so complicated that you have to remove 4 systems to access the one you're working on. That's a bit frustrating.

It seems much smaller than my Volvo 850T5 wagon, but they weigh exactly the same. A lot more stuff crammed in beneath the sheet metal.

I mean, I think that there are some gems for BMW after 1991, but I think there is some rubish too.

VW just kinda took a shit in the 90's.

Well this thread has me missing both my Audis. That 4000 was awesome for a slow fat pig of a car it was. In all my VT winters I never got it into anything that locking the center diff could not get me out of. Still ticked off that deer jumped out in front of it.

                            +1

My Avant with snow tires on was like a tank and unstoppable in the Winter when going up to the mountains. That's why I originally bought it and then I turned it into a racecar and it kept going back to the shop to get fixed.

The 2001 to about 2005 with the (Audi) 1.8T were pretty good cars. The 2.0 was bad, and the 90s were very bad.

Buddy of mine had a jetta 1.8T, got to drive it and it felt nice enough. Ended up breaking down on him though. I've been wanting to to get a Golf r32 to DD, love the look and have heard a lot of positive words about them
