Is there a terminal bottom price on these cars?

I have been all over craigslist and there are tons of cars for sale, but the prices are always in the $1200 or up range no matter the condition of the car or not.

If the paint on a car is trashed, the interior is trashed, big ass dent in the door and the top end needs to be rebuilt, how much would that car be worth? $1,200???

I see it often but it's just the popularity of the car now. 10 years ago, you could have had a mint one for $2,000. Same goes for 240's.

Fortunately and unfortunately, the value on these cars have gone up in the past few years. Many people still think these cars are worth what they were 4-5 years ago and would only pay 800 bucks for something like that. Unfortunately, that is not the case anymore. $1200 IMO is decent if not $1000 if you can get it for that much. When I got mine, it was at 60,xxx miles with peeling clear coat, but it was pretty clean (other than a valence with fucked paint and little things here and there). We paid around 1600. I would think nowadays, it would be around 2500 for that condition.

It depends. There is value in the parts (it takes work to sell them, of course). If you're looking for a driver or a base for mods, I think you would be wise to avoid the typical $1200 car.

parts cars are good for $1000 or less.

drivers that need a lot of work, $2000.

a nice example with maintenance, few and/or tasteful mods, $4000.

super low mileage, euro parts, nicely done swaps/engine builds, wheels, great paint, sorted track cars, etcetera, $8000 or more.

          e30 m3, $11tybillion.

of course there will be deals out there, and crackpot prices, but IMO those are the going rates.

At $1200 that's part out price, I've made 2k off my first part out and 3k so far on the second.

              Free.

Doesn't get much cheaper than that.

Trendy now, the floor will fall out when most are gone, and all that's left are
              beaters and garage queens.

              It's happening with 2002's.

Its a bummer. I just gotta be patient. There is a car in Yuma, AZ that a dude is wanting to sell for $300. Seats are good, but the rest of the interior is not clean. It was an "e" car that he put an "i" head on. The head is bad and needs replacing. Body needs paint after some dents get pulled.

I fear bodywork more than anything. Probably an irrational fear.

1200 today will barely get you a car that runs its not just for e30's

Cash for clunkers took a lot of cars off the road

There's been a couple of ugly junkers for sale in my area for $600. I posted an ad I saw for a partially disassembled '86 on the parts FS forum the other day that was $400. It wasn't my car and I don't know if it was really restorable, but the seller seemed to think so.

I think there is definitely a sweet spot with E30s where if the price is too low you are looking at some epic repairs.

No, I'd say that's a healthy fear, if you don't have someone good to do it, and can't do it yourself.
