got into a bad accident, advice needed.

long story short, I was sitting at a red light in front of a hospital on my way to the airport this morning and got rear ended at full speed. An ambulance driver/EMT-B who was also at the light as a witness.

The problem is that the car is fully insured but I am not the registered owner. It is a loaner vehicle at where I work. How does this play out as far as the claim goes?

Also, I left the car with the other person's car in the same yard as the tow truck driver strongly suggested that its best if both cars are in the same yard for the insurance adjuster to look at (thought this was rather odd...)

But I figured it wouldn't hurt and just left it there. Any thoughts on this?

Other than contacting the other person's insurance to see what is going on, what else do I need to do as the vehicle was not in my name?

The person who hit you is the one whose insurance pays up, it has nothing to do with your car or insurance.

Unless they don't have insurance. Who is listed at fault on the police report?

What do you need to do? Inform your employer that the accident happened. That's it.

The officer responsible for the accident was not able to finish the paperwork because I did not have my insurance policy# available. So he advised me to just call in with the policy # later, which I am working on as we speak.

I will speak with him in regards to this but I believe it was rather a strait forward investigation on the accident scene. ambulance driver as a witness, the driver being under the influence, but I guess it would've been wiser to made sure everything was clear on my end before leaving the scene.

On the flip side, my girlfriend rode to the airport in a fire truck and a firefighter escorted her all the way to the gate since she was late for her flight. kind of a cool story, plus no one, including the other driver was hurt.

I wouldn't give my personal insurance info I would just give the company's insurance and contact info if its their car it's on them. I wouldn't want my insurance company making a stink of me driving and possibly being injured in a vehicle not listed in my policy

I find it strange that you weren't given a police report because of missing insurance policy number.

So it is basically a company car, right?

No problem. I was rear ended by an NPR in the shop truck when I worked at the porsche shop. I called the owner, he came down to the scene ( it was right up the street from the shop) he brought extra copies of the insurance info and made sure I was ok. We both talked to the cops and I drove the truck back to the shop.

The only weird thing about it was it was already on a salvage title so they totalled it (again) and we put a new bed on it.

                No worries.

My thoughts...depending on the terms of the loaner, they often attach your own insurance as either primary or secondary coverage so check the language if their is a loaner agreement. If you simply borrowed it then your insurance should not be involved and I would provide the insurance info for the car you were driving.

If the driver was DUI it is possible that his insurance will deny liability. State law usually governs this.

As has been said...not your car not your problem although obviously you want to hgelp out as much as possible.

The fact that you were rear ended will also be obvious from the damage. Any adjuster can figure that much out without a police report.

Lucky you are ok after a full speed rear end hit on a non moving vehicle.
