The head engine designer was given a challenge wich
was a engine with max efficiency at all loads and rpms
Single Vanos designed by Rolls Royce and BMW made it into the McLaren F1 motor then the Euro S50B30 286hp motor,
and then standard production engines,
Double vanos follows
Variable intake lenght in the 2,8 Z Coupes
Valvetronic in the small 4´s
I´m surten this is a variable boost engine running valvetronic and or double vanos. Thus optimum cyl filling at all loads and rpms,
BMW was going to run pheunamic valves but that meant 48volt electrics,
and that has not happened yet.
The engine components in this engine are destined for 200.000km´s minimum
and beyond.
I´d say the BMW Turbo domination has begun

You are full of shit. The only real way to get any real power out of it is to up the displacement or FI.

McLaren M1 had double vanos on each cylinder bank.

The track-ready version will make a whopping 400 horsepower out of its 3.4-liter in-line six.
Fucking tard. You'll probably try to convince me that somehow .2L got them 70 horsepower next.

The engine is not going to last 100k+ miles at 3.4l and 400hp. It is a race motor. Shit if that is your argument then I am sure they can get 600hp out of it. You can get 400hp out of a pencil sharpener these days. How long it will last is another question.
Why would BMW put a V8 in the new M3 if they can get 400hp and longevity from a 3.3l 6cyl?

That's right, a RACE MOTOR. That was what I said from the start. BMW is branded as a luxury brand these days, as sad as it is. Therefore, they must cater to their target market by making a car that feels fast to your random overpaid executive who will likely never take it above 3000rpm, else he's going to go buy an E55 AMG.
And yeah, it will be able to last just as long. I don't know why people think that power = less reliability. So long as you use better components to match the power, you'll have no problems. Sure, if you constantly run the engine at redline it probably won't last all that long, but a 60hp d15 honda engine won't last that long if you do that either.
