Where to get bolts?

I should have a few sets of these in a bin; all hot tanked. The older platings are indeed nice.

If you were local I'd offer you a set in exchange for a beer.

I use a local hardware supplier for new diff bolts. Sometimes when you need to deal with 1,200rwhp it's nice to run new hardware in a higher grade.

this is why I hoard old nuts/bolts that are still in good shape.

some still look brand new after 25+ years of being exposed to the elements.

I do the same, it is nice to have a stock pile of bolts, relays, etc. on hand instead of having to run to the dealership all the time for small parts etc.

They do but they can be just as expensive as online and the selection isnt that great for metric stuff.

Hardware store bolts arent going to have the proper coating and will likely rust.

Don't know what you can get locally to you, but the ACE here sells american made fasteners (can't remember brand name) that are high quality. They sell both zinc, black chromate and zinc chromate plated fasteners along with stainless solid brass and plastic as well.

MSC has Unbrako and Holo Krome metric fasteners, which are generally a cut above what McMaster has, and definitely a few notches above what they have at most hardware stores.

The BMW fasteners are also a good choice, but the change to Zn plating because of RoHS isn't as good as the cadmium plated fasteners of yore.

Fastenal (look online, locations everywhere) has worked well for me when I only need a few bolts and didn't want a big pack of them from McMaster and/or pay the shipping.

hardware store bolts may very well be of inferior quality. Like, wretched.

It's hard to find decent hardware any more.

Get new ones from the hardware store. Take the diff cover with you an get M10 bolts in the correct length that fit through the cover and stick past by about 1/4" (5-6mm).
