Hey, I'm new to the forums and I'm looking to buy my first e30. The one I'm looking at is $1000, but it has a blown head gasket and a shot cooling system. Its a 1991 318is so I could either have the engine rebuilt a do an engine swap to an m50/m52. I'm a senior in high school, so i cannot spend more than $3000 total to get it running. So my question is should I buy the car or not?

he says there's no rust, but i cannot be sure. also the front lip is a little messed up and the driver's seat is torn. i dont personally care about the seats because i plan on replacing them eventually.
"I am selling my 1991 BMW 318is because I do not have the time for another project. I purchased the car earlier this summer with a blown head gasket diagnosis, but I planned to replace the M42 with an S52 so it didn't matter to me. The best part of this car is the condition of the body. There is virtually no rust and only a few minor dings. There is some minor damage to the front air dam, but for the most part, this car is in great physical shape. This was the last year of the E30 and the 318is was the lightest one made. These cars are becoming increasingly harder to find, especially ones not destroyed by rust. Feel free to call me for additional details. I'm willing to entertain all reasonable offers."

Start at 800 as an offer and see what he says...then just grab a running m42 and abuse that while you save $ for the rest of the car and the planned swap. Will most likely need all new suspension if the cooling system was neglected. Do a little hunting on ebay or ask Mr. Blunt for a price quote and then see if that's within your budget.
I just wonder how everything else in the car works.
