How much do cabrio's squeak and rattle?

Just a curiousity thing. The s2k's top creaks a bit (mainly when it's cold), but I haven't gotten around to taking it apart and greasing it. I'd imagine that e30's are a bit worse in the chassis flexibility dept.

It'd be great if you have a decent amount of experience in both hardtop e30's and cabrio's and you could compare.

Brother's 86 325es coupe: Doesn't squeak very much or even not all.

My 88 325i vert: Doesn't squeak on flat roads but in the back when going over a series of bumps or railroad tracks it squeaks where the back of the top meets the trunk area. I just put a new top on and it is tight as hell. Very little squeaking now and much quieter. I think if you want a vert you should expect it. I couldn't pass the deal up I got it with 99,500 miles on it and the guy wanted only 3000 and he sold it to me for 2,700. Nothing wrong with it except 2 little holes in the top. Oh and it gets worse in the cold.

i dont think ive ever had a conversation about e30s with bendashdash that didnt involve how much he hates how his cabrio creaks.

top down - not squeaky - top up - it squeaks around the seals.

seriously, putting in new seals really does shut it up alot, now all the bad noise i can hear is a little wind noise through the roof itself, clunking from my front susp, and my pass seat squeeking. the top and frame doesnt make much noise at all

I'm rather curious IF having a hardtop helps cut down/ eliminate wind noise, squeek's, etc?? Frank should be able to tell us

My car ('86 325es) has your typical 20 year old bumps, and rattles, especially the broken RSM on the passenger side, but that's about it.
I drove a cabrio in Germany, and it was pretty tight, until I did 5 laps at the Nurburgring in it... maybe it was just me, but I seem to remember a lot more squeeks and rattles on the way home from the ring...
(other than the top fluttering at anything higher than 70mph, that is)

Yea, not a quiet car. Really helps to have the top down. On the highway it's pretty noisy w/ the top up.

the conv. E30 I owned 10 years ago didnt rattle, or squeak at all. Actuall, my father comented about it when he came over to visit back then about how low the car was and it still didnt rattle or annything. but the car was only a few years old then too.
