but srly, you could do a cheap and cheerful 2.7L stroker build with eta crank, eta rods, i pistons and your i head. Gives you a CR of ~8:1, which is kinda meh for a NA, but would be quite good for a turbo build down the line.

            First.....

            It's "trying to"

not tryna......this thread will derail so quick it'll make your head spin.

Second...........Hp and the word "cheap rarely go together.....ever.

            Third.........If that is in-fact your car........It's beautiful.

That e30 doesn't need more HP. It looks fantastic.

An M50/S50/52 swap can be done very economically nowadays and using mostly /if not all OEM parts

Start searching in the M20 forum. You've got many options depending on how much money you've got to spend, and how much horsepower you want.

Using OEM BMW parts in your M20B25 you can go 2.8 up to 3.1L stroker to net you approx 200whp with proper tuning.
Turbo = sky is the limit, but with a 5K budget you could get to 300whp if you research and buy smart.
24V swap = arguably more reliable than turbo, not worth it IMO for an M50 swap (190hp) but S50/S52s are common, 240hp stock, up to 260-270 with bolt ons, 290ish with proper cams. Cost for a basic S50 swap is 4-7K depending on factors such as maintenace while engine is removed, where you got the engine, etc.

                            Just search, search, search.

you'll do anything for a good blow.

                              Also OP
if you are on a budget. get a chip for your car. that's about the best mod you can hope for. dont do anything else.
you can get about 10hp from a chip.
to get 10 more you have to spend 1000
and every 10 more plan on spending 1500

the m20 makes a great sound, but you cant afford to get 200hp out of it. so leave it alone.
                              Much wow
                              I hate 4 doors
