Yes it is possible to pull an engine from the side, alone, in a two car garage.

Looks like a classic case of "while we're in there..."
Best cure is to call blunt and take a couple of his suppositories.Leave a comment:

I got to the point of unbolting the transmission mid air because I didn't think it was possible to lift it up and over... Then adrenaline kicked in I decided to give it one last go and man handled it out.Leave a comment:

Nice job. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
I just pulled the m30 from the 735iL by myself with a hoist that couldn't get it up high enough. I had the oil pan out of the car and the tail of the transmission was dragging in the transmission tunnel. I was planning on pulling the engine and transmission out in one piece...yeah, well that didn't happen. I disconnected the transmission in mid-air and let it plop down on the cross-member. Then a little tug and the m30 came out.Leave a comment:

That escalated quickly.
Well done on pull! Now I feel like a wimp for leaving my car in the driveway to do simple things instead of working in my 1-car garage.Leave a comment:

Well it started as a simple headgasket job, then into a "this block needs a time-sert kit" job, into a "this block needs to go to the machinist job" into a "Im getting another block job".Leave a comment:

Today I pulled the engine+transmission from my E30 from the side, without a leveler, alone, in a cramped ass two car garage (use it for storage also temporarily).
Proof:

Yes it was a nightmare, yes I had to man handle the transmission up and over at the same time I had to push the engine crane back.Tags: None
