Finally the buzzy shifter is gone!

    Hey guys-
I have been struggling with my shift lever for 2 years now, it buzzes and is soo loud. It was very irritating, until today...
I swapped out my UUC Short Shift kit for the Z3 lever and a new cup bushing and now its quiet and provides a tighter shift. The levers were exactly the same length and size, so it feels close to the same, but the Z3 is rubber filled with a plastic bushing where the UUC was all metal with a brass bushing, causing much unwanted noise and vibration.

I also switched over to Redline oil in my engine (diff/trans were converted a while ago) and the motor is happy now...

Just fell in love with my car all over again! 8)

It is, but they obviously sacrificed the noise, for the better feel of the brass bushing over the plastic bushing.

      I need to experience a 2.5L M3, see what I'm missing out on :P

yer missing out on a LOT...
I am torn right now... I am trying to decide between installing my schricks, or selling them and going to a custon vortech superchrager and copper headgasket for 9.5:1CR.

hmmm... gotta give myself a week to think it over.. 8)

You know what's funny, the APA recently funded a study that showed "sleeping on it" does really help you make a better decision.

I'll try to find a link.

if you boosted your s14, the purists would cut off your hands in your sleep. I would think it was really cool though

Vortech:  Read the response to the SC'd M3 in Roundel... "Kills some of the s14 fun"

UUC SSK: Never had an issue with ours. No buzz, nothing. Odd. I bet if you re-installed it with the new cup you'd have little to none???

Either way, on lovin the car again

It's an s14, the shifter's supposed to buzz & vibrate, that's part of the cool-ness.

My M44 does it as well in third, I love it.

I don't care... I like doing things differently, and I would have one of very few, if not the only 2.5L S14 in the US that was boosted...

you just cannot get more power for less money, its been proven. I drive my car 4k miles a year now, and the engine has 8k miles on it, so I think it would last a REALLY long time... Its just a thought, I am not sure I will do it...

Ryan, funny you should mention SC'ing the S14 with a Vortech. I was thinking the same thing! A while back i was semiseriously looking into turbocharging but the S14 sits at such a slant that the fabricator wasn't enthusiastic about the making a custom manifold, etc plus costs were a bit much. A supercharger, while not as efficient is easier to implement and can make good power throughout the RPM range. I think it's just the thing to separate a 2.5 S14 from the others and as you know those Schricks alone cost a little more than half the cost of a brand new Vortech SC. Vortech is also somewhat local to you which is a big plus.

As for the purists, it's true BMW M stated they wanted to make powerful naturally aspirated engines but nothing makes power like forced induction and at least you're modifying the existing engine instead of swapping. If it weren't for ERT's kit being so damn expensive and poorly engineered, more people would SC the S14. RMS has a kit for around $4K but I can't see how it would even cost that much since the SC itself is around $1700 +/-. Anyway, let me know if you decide to go for it.
