    First thread, hi everybody

Ever since I can remember I've thought that the E30 is one of if not the best looking cars ever made. About a month ago, my Subaru LGT got totaled, and I was looking at buying some cheap basic transportation - accords, camrys, etc - and keeping the rest of my insurance check for the house downpayment fund. While looking for such cars, on a whim I typed E30 into craigslist and found a 1987 325 for sale. In typical fashion I decided to buy it first and ask questions later. After the initial thrill of having basically one of my dream cars wore off I started to do my homework. In the course of researching fixes for some of the small issues, I found this site. Seems like a great community you guys have here.

Making a parts order right now, and hopefully next weekend I'll be changing the timing belt/water pump, which is the first mechanical thing I've ever done on a car, lol. Wish me luck.

Sorry for TLDR and no car or gf pics. I'll post a couple soon I promise.

I also went from LGT to E30.

Welcome! I have an '87 too, though mine has a slightly different motor. I like the looks of the early model cars. You'll be amazed how easy your E30 will be to work on! The more you do to it, the more you'll feel confident to try in the future.

Same car here, honestly I'm not sad I don't have an "i". added mpg really helps me out as a student.

The other nice thing about these cars is there are enough spare parts to basically make your car however you want it, regardless of how it started its life. I'm currently working on making my car into an '87 325iSedan. ;)

I don't, unfortunately. I've been at it for almost two years now, I wonder if I could collect enough pictures to start one belatedly...at any rate, I'd be more than happy to PM you with a list of things I've done until I figure that out.

@Cabriolet, I am headed over to my parents' house now to do it now. Knock on wood it survives the trip. Got a bentley manual and the DIY thread from this site printed out.
