Hard to argue with that rationale. Thanks Blunt. Time for a Landcruiser sale ad-95 525it, stock, auto buy it, get in and drive it. Leave it stock. You yourself said you dont want a project or have a lot of time for working on a DD.. So why buy the Subaru and swap all the suspension or the VW and remove bags etc etc. Keep it simple and dedicate your spare time to your e30Leave a comment:

So why buy the Subaru and swap all the suspension or the VW and remove bags etc etc. Keep it simple and dedicate your spare time to your e30I bought a 93 Landcruiser for a daily over the summer and its been a cool truck to drive, it sucks to drive on windy back roads and narrow city streets. The Landcruiser is going to find a new home soon. I'm looking at the following for a dd;
-95 525it, stock, auto
-02 Imprezza Outback Sport (somehow I ended up with stock 05 STi suspension so that will be going on the OBS)
-08 Rabbit, 5spd, airbags (they're going if I get it), ecu flash, new clutch and Techtonics exhaust
I don't have a lot of time to fool around with a dd (another reason I'm selling the Landcruiser) and want something that is relatively get in and go. I know all cars need to be maintained but I don't want a project every damn week.Leave a comment:

Did subaru for 3 years as dd:
1997 legacy wagon; cheap and even cheaper to maintain.
2001 impreza RS. SLOW but good handling and looking. Thats about all
5's are great dd's
E34 525i manual- great economical cruiser 23mpg avg combined city fwy
E39 540i -6mt; great quiet and fast. Thirsty on tires, maintence, fuel (17mpg Average)
Current dd:
E36m - its the most interesting to drive for sure. Most High consumption as well on everything; but I do track it almost as many days as the full race E30

Nice Landcruiser, it really dwarves the e30, haha.
My vote is for the e34it, solid build quality.Leave a comment:

Mmmm.. Landcruiser. But yeah, Subarus are great if you don't drive your E30 in the winter. Can't go wrong with AWD.Leave a comment:

nopei would get a e39 528i since they are cheap and readily available and just a far better chassis then the e34. Decent gas mileage too.And the aftermarket is far superior as well. If you are ok with 18-21 mpg get a 540i, expect to replace all 8 coil packs though, just go ahead and do them to save yourself the trouble or having to diagnose intermittent coil pack failure 8 times.I think they are 38 a piece on rock auto. Plan on getting nickel and dimed constantly too unless its very well kept.Leave a comment:

Here's a picture of the 80 next to my e30. I'll post up a proper sale thread once I get things together

I'm going to get another one once I'm finished grad school. By then, I can legally import a diesel one which is what I'd really like.
My concern with a newer BMW (e39) is electrical crap going wrong. My brother had a 98 528i that was mechanically sound but had stupid electrical gremlins that were a pita to diagnose.Leave a comment:

Any of them would be great. I DD an e34 525 and it's awesome. The Subaru is a great choice especially for a winter DD. The rabbit wouldn't be bad either. My brother daily drove one for 89K trouble free miles aside from your basic maintenance stuff.Leave a comment:
