i say do it, but wait till you get very experienced. every time i hop back in a stock e30 with an m20 i almost laugh at the power difference. no offense to anyone. but you can get in trouble with either if you are an inexperienced driver.

I've owned an m42, m20, and S52'd E30.
The 318is is fun but not quick.
The m20 was okay, but after about 10 track days it was annoying to get out powered on every straight.
The s52'd car is fun and quick.
IMO: stick with the m42 as long as you can stand it. Then do the swap--right. It was a great learning experience for me.1991 318is sold!
