    M30 ECU in e30 with m20

I'm looking to buy a Jim C chip for my 87 325is with an m20 motor and a manual tranny swap. When I went to check the ecu number it was 0 261 200 150 (the same ecu found in the 88 735i). The car has been running well since, but would the chip actually work in the e30???

    a 150 is physically the same as a 153. a 153 chip *should* work in a 150.

*should*? Do you think I would be safer going with the 150 or 153 chip?

well a 150 chip would be for an M30. you need one for a 153. the hardware, as I said, is identical - but they have different tunes inside from the factory, so the M30 DME gets a different part #. there's also another version of the 15x DME for the seta (I think it's 154 or something).

it's not exactly surprising that an M20 would run on an M30 tune. you can interchange wiring harnesses between them as well as long as the motronic version matches (1.1/1.2/1.3)
