    Shipping advice...

So today I shipped a rather unusual package. It was a large box containing an e30 euro front valance, lip, and euro front bumper trim

    Total weight: 21.30 lbs.

    Size: 24x24x57 inches

    Shipped from MA to AZ

Cost: $86 (it WAS $95, but I signed up for an account and account holders pay less apparently.)

I thought it was a bit high, but when I checked two similar packages on Fedex.com and UPS.com, here's what I found:

    Package:
    16x16x57 inches
    21 lbs
Same origin and destination as above

    Fedex: 42.88
    UPS: 59.47
    DHL: 42.52
    USPS Parcel Post: 127.24

As you can see, Fedex or DHL are similar, UPS and USPS are way too much.

I am curious about small packages. I normally ship via USPS priority, which means free packing and small stuff is usually 3.85, but I wonder if going fedex would be cheaper?

    Anyone have experience with this?

In my experience FedEX is generally the cheaper alternative.

I've known alot of people over the years that have worked for various carriers, and all have said FedEX is the best carrier, cares the most about your package and its contents, and operates as they should.

UPS is constantly bottom of the tier.

A few weeks ago, I had to ship out a transmission. UPS would have been $67. FedEx was $42.

I almost NEVER ship anything UPS, unless the buyer requests. I use FedEx almost exclusively, sometimes USPS, depending on the parcel.

My GF works for Staples and someone had her convinced that UPS was the cheapest. I found that hard to believe, and it looks like I was right :)

          Another question:

I have a set of weaves on the vert and need to estimate shipping. Anyone else ship a set of weaves WITH tires? Got a dimension/weight for me?

I put two each in a box. From here to AZ, ran me about 42.00 total for both boxes by fedex ground.

Really? WITH tires? That's not bad. I figured with tires, $20 each wheel.

Two per box is better than one larger box? Or 4 smaller boxes? Air out the tires I assume?

Large boxes that are too big for FedEx ground means that UPS is cheaper. For smaller packages, FedEx ground is a lot cheaper. Trust me. I use to build subwoofer boxes for people and shipped a lot of them. One box was about 4 cubes ported for 2 12's. It and the package weighed 107 pounds and cost about $75 to ship via UPS because it was too big for FedEx.

Scott what did you use to ship that box?

I use Fedex exclusively. I've gotten some good deals. Cost $52 to ship my pair of Corbeaus to MA, $45 to ship a valance to TX, and $55 to send all 4 of my throwing stars to Cali (no tires).

Wow $42 for a tranny not bad at all. I have a LSD just about ready to ship and a dash panel that needs to go to. I've been trying to decide which carrier to use. Most of the time iI used USPS for small shit BUT the Dash is very big and the LSD is just fucking heavy. I was considering DHL BUT sounds like fed-ex may be the best option.

Tires were aired up - helped the box keep its shape. Its not like the air weighs any more.:p

I think the boxes were 24x24x18. About a buck apiece from UPS Store.

Looked it up 21.53 per box. That was with a fedex account online. Which is ALWAYS cheaper than taking it to the counter.

Why would you box up rims with tires?
