    chevy cavalier "shims"?

so my friend went to go get his tires aligned, and they told him they couldnt do it because his shims were worn out.

    two questions:
    1) what the hell is a shim?
    2) how many hours to replace?

The shims are to make sure the piston return springs stay in place, but of course none of it works without fresh blinker fluid either. It'll be about 29 hours to fix.

WTF can't rotate the tires?? Find a new shop.

They use shims for alignment. Camber and caster. If you decide to go back to that shop, have your friend tell them to adjust toe only and give a readout of camber/caster. They are the ones who are supposed to put the shims in, they compensate.

Hey I beat the shit outta one for a daily (I drive 85+ miles a day to and from work) and it just keeps coming back for more. Hell I love it 34 MPG cheap to fix and only cost me 400 bucks and a little bit of time to put a new clutch in it. Good winter beater too.

Ok, I dont actually hate the cars. One of my coworkers, who I greatly dislike because he is such a damn putz drives one, so I associate their sort of bottom feeder look with his stupid ass :)

you said putz. Everytime I hear that (which is VERY rarely these days) I think of Beverly Hills Cop II.
