325i turbo project started. Good progress this weekend.

We pulled the complete exhaust, intake and valve cover and a few other things. Installed the manifold, wastegate, turbo and built the 3" downpipe and full exhaust. Intalled a powdercoated intake with 24lb injectors and valve cover. We have a few items to procur this week but hope to have it running by early next week.

The exhaust has two O2 sensor bungs so we can run a wideband O2 sensor and use our data logger to record rpm, boost and a/f ratio while driving. No more tuning on the dyno for us.

    For updates next week.

    Thanks,

Looking good... be sure to polish the fins/BMW emblem on the valve cover :D That thing's gonna be a beast, I can tell.

          Diego,
A similar manifold on our M30s seems to flow just fine. I expect a minimum of 10psi non intercooled and 15psi intercooled using the stock engine management.

How is your T04B compressor doing? Feel OK?

            Great!

Well after putting my New compressor...I feld the car a bit more nervous at the same 6 PSI, but now I feel stronger and almost no pinging9 PSI, well soemtimes it give me a little noise of pinging. I have to fix it..

Also I can hear a different noise from the filter...like when I'm engaged in second gear I feel like it were sucking air but it's closed the TB, also I hear soemtime like if it were another BOV type....like the Factory cars that have some kind of BOV...

Also, you are using 24 LB/h vs my 21LB/h, what you are going to do in low RPMS? it will spray much fuel and wil be too much rich...I have a little problem with it...to correct adn feel less that over fuel mixture I have to turn up my boost at 9 PSI and gets better the response..

            Keep us posted! ;)

The Motronic ecu makes the necessary adjustments for all but WOT. I don't anticipate any problems with drivability. I don't think your SMPT thingy is helping you if you are having drivability problems. One of our requirements of a turbo kit is that it uses NO piggy back systems. Just a RRFPR and BTM for higher boost applications.

Are you sure it is rich? If so, try tightening the AFM spring. I also wonder about using the AFM as a blow through system. It is designed as a draw through. Maybe the flapper is getting maxed way early and going to open loop prior to WOT?

We position the AFM on the intake side of the system, bwtween the filter and compressor inlet.

Rich at cruise or rich at WOT. If it's rich at WOT then it the 12:1 Vortech that is causing the problem. You need an adj FMU like the BEGI unit. How else can you adjust the mixture?

at wot...it shows me rich..depends on crusie, If I hit a bit more than 0 PSI automatically the FMu raise and show rich, but works good. so sometimes I try to keep in vacumm instead of boost for fuel economy and such things.

I'm not sure how other way we can adjust the fuel delivery, for sure I will do it with my SMT 6 once I done. I can play with the Plus Width and such things.

Oh! BTW, I'm using 10:1 FMU not 12:1

                          Diego,
You need to ditch the Vortech FMU.

                            Turbo kit question?

                            Hi, Todd
I am interesting on your turbo kit M20.
I am new to turbo, and have no idea what to do.
So, here's some questions I have:
                            1. Do I need to change my ECU?
                            2. Is your kit bolt-on or I need some modification?
                            3. Do u know anyone around GA who can install kit 4 me.

                            Thanks a lot
