    Honestly no.

Buy the plane Jane 9-2 with the lower power engine. It's pretty outside and nice inside and basically a 2.5ts impreza

Saab yeah thats going to be cost effective on repairs huh. Just what he needs an expensive re badged scooby to fix. Where he lives Saab is what you do when you are sad, and people likely think its french. Crying and being french are 2 cardinal sins in his neck of the woods and will draw much unneeded or wanted attention from the locals based on driving a car with the stereotypical badge that equates to rich kid in his area. The people he will be taking it too for repairs are going to try and take him for a ride because its European and has a funny name. Saab has been gone for a while, and anything that might be manufacturer specific is going to be outrageously expensive

well if you look into the 4 banger Escapes your talking closer to 27 and the hybrid is closer to 30 on the HWY, for your 4wd traveling needs

just a little food for thought is all

have you ever been to a parts store to buy parts??? , When you have 2 cars one re-badged with a more prestigious name plate parts are way more expensive for that one.

Kinda like buying parts for a say Fiero, you need front suspension parts, you tell them you need shit for a fucking citation because the ball joints will be 4 bucks a pop, rather than 22.............................

Yup there is a way around that if your fixing it your self, and thats to get parts for the cheaper nameplate but what about when his G/F needs to get it fixed outta town. Plus where they live is not the BAY area or the big city, there are more people in your county than in his state. Where he lives driving euro nameplates brings a cretin stigma (as it does where I live and partly why I have not replaced my BMW) and its not something you really want to have to deal with.

            I've owned a '75 subaru wagon, a 2002 Forester S, and currently have ( well ok, wife has) a 2013 Subaru Outback...also an 88'ix.

I don't seem to recall the gas mileage in our Forester, but it wasn't horrible. Lighter than an Outback I'd imagine. Fairly fun to drive with shorter wheelbase, but no e30.

We recently had snowy, icy roads here for over a week. With only all-season Bridgestone tires on our '10 Outback, it did really, really well in the snow and ice. So well, it was rather boring to drive. Traction control and all of that. But I don't think its a 90-10 power distribution to the drive wheels. I believe its more sophistocated than that, shifting power from slipping wheels to ones with traction. We have the CVT transmission on that 3,600 or so lb. rig. The gas mileage is actually not that bad....far better than my 2,700 lb ix! Chalk it up to a transmission that seems to keep the engine at 1,200 rpm most of the time driving easy, and better ECU system, but whatever it is, we got 31 mpg on our last 500 mile road trip. Averages a solid 28 mpg in mixed city/ hwy driving. My IX gets about 22-24 mpg, driving delicately.

Our Forester had 80,000 trouble free miles, ouside of tranny seal leak that was an easy fix. Not one problem, yet, with our 70,000 mile Outback. You can't go very wrong with a Subaru. Not it's not the responsive machine that a BMW is, but Subarus are decently economical, very safe, and quite dependable vehicles. Various years/ models are plagued with headgasket failure problems I've heard, but considering the dizzying array of issues I've read about with e36, e46,e90 BMW's....for the money I'd probably buy a later model Subaru. You won't have an Vanos rattle with an opposed 4cyl. Subaru!

I had a 98' Subaru impreza and i was not impressed with its snow performance at all, although a had new all seasons on it the car still slid around and always wanted to walk and wounder even in slush. I sold the car for a e46 330xi, I think the BMW is a better car, the overall quality is better and way better in the snow. So far i will say the subaru had over 200k and was a dam reliable car, only problem i ever really had was a clutch but it was due. The e46 has like 115k and I've had to replace a/c lines, fuel pump, front axles, carrier bearing, passenger air bag sensor, alternator, battery, and the window motor just started acting up. And this is all in the last 4 months, but that's pretty much conman maintenance at those miles.

My vote still goes to the e46.

I laughed way too hard at this

Ill check out those escapes. I wasnt aware they made a 4cyl version.

Im kind of leaning subaru. We travel a lot from WY to CO and half of the CO population drives subarus so I cant imagine parts would be hard to find. And id like to hope that for the most part it will be me doing the work to the car unless im out of town. which is a pretty good chance.. Thanks for the input d00ds. More opinions and suggestions are welcome.

Outbacks are awesome. My best bro has an 08' Outback 2.5XT 5-speed.
Fucking insanely awesome car. So much powah, so much grip, so much sexiness.

Sorry; I'd be buying parts for the saab 92 at subaru where they are cheap.

If one is stupid; not my problem.

You don't need to have problems of bum fuck no where; anyone with working Internet can order subaru parts online from rock auto for cheaper than cheap.

Anyone with a business that the OP or his girl friend does not know or use frequently to bring it into for service or repair, is going to try and make as much money as possible as well and the markup on saab parts is much higher than a scooby.

                        You fail to understand that there are 0 saab parts in a 92. It's made by mother fucking subaru. Saab puts a badge on the hood;

I totally understand that fact. Its jim bob at the local car fixen place that is going to use the fucking badge on the hood as an Excuses to use the higher mark up on parts and service. I know that's what dealers do why do you think jimbo's car fixen shop is going to be any diffeant. Have you ever been to wyoming before ???
