You just have to accept it and move on.
Someone has "female" issues . . . let me guess, no girlfriend. Now why would it be that a boy who is not into the "white gloves" treatment of women (according to him, Garp) come into a thread titled "proud moms?" Looking to vent?
The issue is this, the punks in the bunch, the insecure who can't fathom that cars and speed are not solely owned by males, hide behind a computer, they come in and feel they can "attack" and actually be heard . . . all I have to say is . . . . I feel sorry for you but you are your parents problem, they apparently did not quite achieve the grade in contributing to society.

To the gents onboard . . . thanks as always, you make this site informative, knowledgeable and fun.

The bond between parents and kids seems to fade during the teen years and I think it's pretty cool that yours is still strong. Mine got me interested in skiing and taught me to appreciate the great outdoors. My mother has been gone for 27 years and now I work for USF&W. I think she'd be pretty proud of that.

Well at least you responded reasonably to those who may disagree with you.

I remember when he got that car about 3 years ago as a non-running Craigslist car for $1200. He has gradually repaired and improved it and is hands on guy. It still needs some work but has been very reliable. The location where he and his buddy Ian (who happens to be a professional photographer and subie fanatic) were having some fun is actually about as safe as can be without being on a closed course. I'm middle age and would have enjoyed doing the same that day. Anyway thanks Ian for the cool pics.

I am sorry your Mom has been gone for so long . . . no doubt she is VERY proud. Our boys are our legacy ;)

It has been all fun ever since. Thanks BearMW for parts and mentoring my boy on his acquisition of car know-how! You have always done us right with knowledge and parts =)

Nope, nothing against women. I am married. I am not attacking, just pointing out the stereotypical "car girl". I know plenty of women that are into cars, cool people, and don't use it for attention. I didn't come into this thread to attack you or to sooth my insecurities. I came in because I was curious and replied to someone's comment. For someone who has an issue with others judging you, you sure seem to be a judgmental one. Let's see, I just pointed out a few things I can see from your profile. You deducted from my one post that I have issues with women, single, insecure, bad parents, and that I am some dredge on society.

If you don't think you get special treatment simply based on the things I mentioned in my previous post you are delusional.

                  Awesome stuff mom.

To everyone else, wtf? Can we not just accept the fact that awesome mom is awesome?
A mom proud of her son in the e30 she bought him doing some proper hoonage. If that doesn't earn this thread of the year then I think r3v is lost.

I think I'm going to go do some donuts in a civic...

Best of luck with your anger and your belief that the "stereotypical "car girl" gets "special treatment" . . . I wouldn't know or be familiar with either one. Your poor wife, no doubt she is not involved in a car project.
As for people judging me, no problem, I would have to care what others thought in order to care about "judgment" and honestly . . . I simply do not care what people think.
As for "stereotypical" . . . when my kids Dad died many years ago I learned pretty quickly that there was nothing stereotypical about me, I don't buy into stereo types but perhaps that is a matter of maturity. Good luck to you and good luck on your project - if you have one on the go.
Yes, I do find liberal-stereo-typists to be dredges, but that is just me.

Seems to me that all the negative responders on this post (which was put up as a "proud Mom" showing the fun and capability of an E30) are jealous or resentful that I am not only accepting of alternative driving but that I enjoy instilling in my kid a love for all things "cars".

                    Not a cave invasion ;)

Yeah, we are pretty tight and as he has grown we are lucky to share some similar interests, travel, cars, speed . . . being his dad died many years ago I guess I kind of had to be a Mom/dad of sorts, just luck I like to build, houses, cars, fun . . . he leaves for the Marine Corps this year so it is a matter of brevity, now.
I can't wait to drive his E30 to whatever USMC base he is stationed out of, he will have full access to the mechanics garages, lifts . . . everything.

PS: We have a remote hunting camp in Nova Scotia . . . Love that place

Thread has served its purpose (whatever that might have been).
