Anybody else here have this armrest/cupholder?

Somebody gave me this armrest/cupholder a while back..

And after getting it installed and driving some, I have come to the conclusion it must be best in automatic E30s.
I find that it gets in the way when shifting. Can anybody here relate?

Had it in an M3 we bought.
    Hated it
Cheesy, broke quickly and made shifting a PIA.

Sold it for like $80 though....
    Below the radar...

hm.. sounds tempting. Only problem is.. the carpet had to be cut and all to put it in..
so I think it might look bad if I took it out. Darn!

i think an armrest would be nice to have when cruising on a road trip or something, but i think it would get in the way when driving aggressive

Factory option that I couldn't stand for the previously stated reasons.

They do net a premium on eBay though. With a well-made auction I've seen them go for as much as $145.

EDIT: you have cloth sport seats?

I bought one of those for my 325, it was nice for long trips, but the cupholders are in the worst spot. If you have a drink in them, you can't use the e-brake and makes shifting a pain. When there wasn't a drink in them though, it didn't bother me.

Needless to say, I didn't transfer it to the M3.

Looks so and its a distinctly different fabric than mine. :? Must be custom.

That is why I hate most cupholder kits, they involved f'in up your interior. THat is why I am die-hard for the E32 cupholder. It doesnt involved doing anything to your car and isnt permanent.

I have that cupholder.. I actually like it. Good arm rest, and I have something to hold my drink when I get fast food or have coffee. The only thing that bugged me about it is the metal peice that is supposed to support the cup underneath, it rattled like crazy and drove me nuts until I finally figured out why it was rattling and ripped it out. now I have no rattles and a functional cupholder. My main complaint is it sort of stresses out the center console and if I had a 5 speed, it would probably get in the way.

Call me Osama for hijacking your thread. :?

Basically yes. The only thing I had to do was stick some 1/8th" thick rubber bumpers for a drawer on the inside lip of the holder so it tightly gripped the lip on the console. Just push on and pull of an store in the glovebox. I only use it on long highway trips.

Just stuck them using the glue on them, been that way for two years:

like $25 from BMW before the discount and the bumpers were free because I stole them off some cabinets. I guess they would be like a dolla from a store.

if I were to get a cupholder, this is what I would want.

i like both of those cupholders

the second one would be nice cause it's on the floor and away from the shifter

I've that armrest in the car since I've been driving it, no problems at all. I don't find it gets in the way or shifting, in any way.

This may change when the Z4 shifter I ordered last week comes in though.
