Ha this is very true. Seems that more often you'll come across the former (of both cases) and I think I speak for the majority when I say that the latter is easily the better choice.The vast majority of them are just rust buckets that look like they were owned by Edward Scissorhands, and maintained by a pack of feral dogs who didn't bother purchasing a Bentley manual.
Also, either you find a car with decent wheels, and it has the fenders completely chewed up and rusted from fitment that's way too aggressive. Or, you find one on stock wheels, and you need to spend $1K to $2K on rims and tires.
Either you find one that has suspension, and the frame rails are rusted out from the undercoat being scraped off them, and the motor has been oil starved a few times from cracked pans. Or, you find one on completely blown original suspension and have to spend money replacing it.
These sort of quandaries extend themselves into every aspect of buying an E30 around here.
